Can you play Fortnite on Nintendo Switch? The short answer is yes. Epic Games' Battle Royale is indeed officially supported on the Nintendo Switch. You can enjoy all the various game modes such as Zero Build, Save The World, LEGO Fortnite, and Rocket Racing. If you feel like tinkering, Creative can be accessed as well. All in all, if you are looking for a portable handheld device to play Fortnite, the Nintendo Switch will fulfill your needs. However, it does come at a cost.

While the game is indeed playable, it's not the best gaming experience out there. Many within the community state that Fortnite on Nintendo Switch is literally unfair and unplayable. This has to do with the fact that Fortnite has undergone radical changes over the years.

With the game now running on Unreal Engine 5.2 (latest version being 5.4), the hardware needed to enjoy this cinematic spectacle has become quite unreal as well. Nevertheless, the game is still very much playable and enjoyable to certain extent. That could change as the game continues to evolve, but for the time being, Fortnite on Nintendo Switch is a palatable experience.

Can you play Split Screen Fortnite on Nintendo Switch?

Unfortunately, you cannot play Split Screen Fortnite on the device. While there are a few videos that assure viewers that they can play Split Screen with a friend, these are nothing but clickbait. Epic Games themselves has confirmed that you are not able to play Split Screen on Nintendo Switch.

Perhaps aftermarket models could run the game in Split Screen mode, but that is a different story. In stock models, the option to play Split Screen does not exist. In fact, the option does not even exist for PC platforms. Only PlayStation and Xbox can run Fortnite in Split Screen.

Coming back to the hardware limitations of the Nintendo Switch, Split Screen will probably not be a good idea. Perhaps the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 could have the capability to run Fortnite on Split Screen mode. However, neither Epic Games nor Nintendo has said anything about it.

That being said, Fortnite on Nintendo Switch will have to be played solo for now. You can team up with friends, though, and explore new and exciting LEGO Fortnite seeds. While it is not the Split Screen experience that many gamers would want, something is better than nothing.
