The Fortnite downtime today (January 14, 2025) is scheduled to begin at 4 AM ET. Matchmaking will be disabled at 3:30 AM ET, and the servers will be live again by 5:30 AM ET. This downtime paves the way for v33.20, the third major update for Chapter 6 Season 1.
Based on the information available, this update will usher in the collaboration between Fortnite and Godzilla-Kong. Epic Games has already hinted at the possibility of players being able to transform into a kaiju and terrorize the island. Aside from this, not much else is known in an official capacity.
If you want to play until the servers go offline to gain a bit of extra XP, consider limiting yourself to Unranked Battle Royale/Zero Build or Creative. This way, you get disconnected mid-game, you will not run the risk of losing out on progression and, most importantly, in-game standing.
