Fortnite First-Person mode has finally been confirmed to arrive in Chapter 6. The announcement was made by Epic Games via its Fortnite Creators account on the social media platform X. Since this feature is still a work in progress, it will likely not be integrated into Battle Royale/Zero Build anytime soon.

Furthermore, since the announcement has been made via the Creators account, Fortnite First-Person mode might remain limited to Creative.

This is not bad as hundreds if not thousands of creators will be able to use this feature first-hand and provide feedback to Epic Games. It will help the developers refine various components and ensure a better experience. Here is everything we know about Fortnite First-Person mode.

Fortnite First-Person mode (Beta) will be released on December 11, 2024

The Fortnite Team has mentioned via a blog that the First Person Camera Mode device is entering Beta on December 11, 2024. Creators will be able to publish their islands using this device. This is a major milestone as this feature has been in development for quite some time.

Back in Chapter 4, using a glitch, players were able to access this mode in-game. Although in early development, it looked great. The glitch was eventually patched, but it gave players something to look forward to. Even during the early stage of development, it looked quite promising. As mentioned, there are a few limitations that will come into play while using Fortnite First-Person mode in Creative. Epic Game has provided a list of restrictions:

  • All ranged weapons (except dual-wield) and the Ballistic Shield are usable in first-person.
  • Not all weapons currently have custom reload animations in first-person.
  • When dual-wielding weapons, the camera will automatically switch to third-person (will remain for the Beta phase).
  • All player actions are not available in first-person. In some situations such as swimming, gliding, and skydiving, the camera will automatically switch to third-person (will remain for Beta phase).
  • Some actions may cause the player's hands or weapon to be hidden.
  • Shadows are missing, and in some situations, you may notice rendering imperfections (clipping).

These issues will be sorted once the Beta phase for Fortnite First-Person mode ends. At the moment, Epic Games is yet to announce a timeline. You can expect more information to become available on launch day and perhaps an update will be provided a week or two after that.

All things considered, Fortnite's First-Person mode will allow creators to truly craft some intense first-person experiences. Keeping FPS (first-person shooters) aside, other genres like horror, exploration, and simulations would greatly benefit from this upcoming feature.
