Fortnite leaks suggest Extraction Shooter Mode in development

According to the latest Fortnite leaks, an Extraction Shooter Mode codenamed "Arnold" seems to be in development. The information was brought to light by @Loolo_WRLD on X. They mentioned that the mode had not been scrapped. However, they wanted viewers to note that since the information was provided two months ago, it was subject to change.

Veteran leaker Fortnite leaks also re-shared the information on social media. Given that Epic Games has been expanding its roaster of official game modes, this is likely more than just hearsay. Here is everything we can expect to see from "Arnold" in the near future.

Although information about the "Arnold" mode is rather limited, based on other games that have similar mechanics, we have some idea about what it could be like. Since it will be an Extraction Shooter, it may have similar mechanics to those featured in DMZ - Call of Duty.

Players will join a match, complete objectives, eliminate other players, and extract (most likely via a Rift) before the Storm consumes the island. The type of objectives could vary depending on several factors such as gameplay mechanics that are introduced.

This speculation is based on the fact that DMZ in CoD has objectives that range from finding certain items to rescuing hostages and eliminating certain bounty targets. Epic Games could implement these in "Arnold" as experimental mechanics that could later be imported to other modes.

When could "Arnold" be released?

With the latest Ballistic (first-person 5v5) mode releasing on December 11, 2024, releasing another game format within the span of Chapter 6 Season 1 would not be a good idea. There's already a lot to see and do. With more content for LEGO coming soon and Winterfest 2024 around the corner, the game is already saturated.

If a suitable timeline is to be explored, "Arnold" is very likely being developed for Chapter 6 Season 2, or some time beyond that. At present, there is no room to accommodate anything else unless this upcoming Extraction Shooter turns out to be an LTM, in which case, it would be a great addition to the game at any given point. We can expect more Fortnite leaks about "Arnold" to appear throughout this season.
