Nitro is the latest mysterious substance to be introduced in the Fortnite universe, and it has brought a ton of chaos to the Island in Chapter 5 Season 3. Not only does it provide players with various abilities in the game, but it also seemingly has ties to the game's narrative. Some interesting theories involving it lead back to Pandora's Box and the Oracle's storyline from Chapter 5 Season 2.

Despite this, Epic Games has not explained to players what Nitro exactly is, and how it will impact the narrative moving forward, especially since this inclusion has a lot to do with Megalo Don, the primary antagonist of Chapter 5 Season 3.

The substance can be found in abundance all over the Island, and this article will talk about what it is as well as why it's important.

What is Nitro in Fortnite?

Nitro is a liquid-like substance that can be found in Nitro Barrels as well as Nitro Splash, both of which can be used for the Nitro effect. This effect impacts players and vehicles differently.

With the latter, it enables unlimited fuel for a short period of time, 20 seconds to be precise. Players, on the other hand, receive increased speed for 20 seconds while also using less stamina when sprinting or jumping.

Additionally, the recovery speed for your stamina is also enhanced when under the effect of Nitro. This substance was brought to the Island by Megalo Don and his Wasteland Warriors, with the mysterious liquid being manufactured and shipped by The Machinist at Redline Rig. But how does Nitro tie into the storyline?

Nitro was seemingly hinted at by the Oracle and Pandora's Box. As highlighted in a recent X post by ScyanYT, a prominent figure in the Fortnite community, this substance bears a striking resemblance to the texture of the orb on Pandora's Box. This explains why Pandora's Box being destroyed unleashed the sandstorm that brought the Nitro-powered Wasteland Warriors to the Island.

This means that the substance is a power so mysterious and chaotic that the Greek Gods deemed it necessary to design Pandora's Box to contain Nitro and the Wasteland Warriors.

However, it seems that this material was not the only thing that the Gods wanted to lock away. This is because the Wasteland Warriors have also brought The Wanderer with them, a mysterious figure that players were warned about by The Oracle in Chapter 5 Season 2.

Who is The Wanderer and what does he have to do with Nitro in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3?

The Wanderer seems to be the next big bad in the game's storyline and seems to be pulling the strings from behind the scenes. This entity might even be responsible for creating Nitro and giving it to Megalo Don and his Wasteland Warriors in a bid to wage war on the Island.

From what's known, this sees to be an incredible storyline character that will shape the narrative moving forward. While the entity has yet to show himself in the game, hints to him are littered all over Chapter 5 Season 3. The first clue comes from The Train, which has now been derailed and bears an insignia for the Wasteland Warriors, along with a mysterious hooded figure, which leaks confirm is the Wanderer.

Additionally, The Wanderer can be seen in the Nitro Fusion Megalo Don Loading Screen from the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 Battle Pass. The figure is in the background, riding alongside Megalo Don and his Wasteland Warriors, further adding proof of his connections to the Nitro-fueled armada.

While The Wanderer's intentions are not yet known, the character will likely be a huge threat in the future, as foretold by The Oracle in the Chapter 5 Season 2 Story quests. However, it is certain that the he is, in some way, responsible for bringing the chaotic substance of Nitro, potentially with his own motivations and plans.
