Fortnite just announced their latest Crew Pack skin. Members who subscribe will be given a monthly skin, V-Bucks, and access to the Battle Pass for one subscription fee. The community has received skins for Green Arrow, Loki, and many others with earlier iterations of the Crew Pack. What makes them special is that they cannot be obtained from the Fortnite Item Shop. This makes them rather exclusive in nature.
Players are set to receive Joni the Red this month. Epic Games has already made an official blog post regarding the latest addition. Speculation about the gender of the character began when a Twitter user noticed a distinct lack of gendered pronouns in the release.
To the community, Epic's ambiguity indicated that Joni the Red may use they/them pronouns. Another Twitter user pointed out that multiple official sources, in different languages, had used they, he, and she as pronouns to refer to Joni. While the Spanish announcement by Epic Games used masculine pronouns for the character, the French blog post referred to Joni with feminine pronouns.

It seems that many have concluded Joni the Red to be a gender-fluid character who uses all pronouns. If true, this would mark a significant change from the previous ways Epic has introduced LGBTQIA+ characters in the game.
At the moment, Fortnite has a non-binary skin in Toni, who uses they/them pronouns. Dreamer, a transgender DC character, was also introduced recently. Overall, though, the community is still underrepresented in the game.
Epic has always been friendly towards the LGBTQIA+ cause, even hosting events like Rainbow Royale throughout the year. This time around, it seems that they're finally starting to go further with representation.
What comes with Joni the Red in Fortnite?
The official blog for Joni the Red reads:
"Vampires beware. Part of the vampire-hunting “High Stakes Club,” Joni the Red strikes in the December 2022 Crew Pack, going live for all active Fortnite Crew subscribers at approximately 7 PM ET on November 30, 2022!"
With the skin, subscribers will also receive Hunter's Holdall back bling, the Scarlet Oath pickaxe, and the On A Hunt loading screen.
This is also going to be a very fulfilling month for Crew Pack subscribers.
Most of the time, only the skin and its cosmetics are released. However, Epic has stated that more is to come very soon:
"To raise the stakes even more, owners of the December Crew Pack will receive bonus rewards throughout December, including a new Style for Joni the Red. And speaking of the future, you may see another member of The High Stakes Club soon. Like very soon."
Additionally, Crew Pack subscribers will unlock the stage of a new, customizable pickaxe every month they are active. Many Fortnite players try to subscribe, get the skin, and then cancel their subscriptions. This is the developer's way of ensuring they stick around.
There are six stages to the Photonic Legacy Set. The Photonic Striker Pickaxe is available and will have five alternate styles unlocked at various levels.
As always, the Crew Pack comes with the Battle Pass (which is appropriate since the next season is right around the corner) and 1,000 V-Bucks each month. Essentially, it's a stellar deal for any community member.
