Everyone seems to agree that Fortnite Chapter 4 has been amazing so far. Unfortunately, it falls short on older-generation gaming consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As many players are aware, Epic Games has upgraded Fortnite to Unreal Engine 5.1 with the release of the new chapter. This significant upgrade has caused a lot of issues for players on older systems, making the game almost unplayable.
Epic hasn't addressed these issues yet. However, this is not surprising as the game development company is currently on a winter break that will end in early January 2023.

Fortnite Chapter 4 is unplayable on older systems
One thing that makes Fortnite Battle Royale so popular is the game's accessibility on multiple gaming platforms. Whether players are on the older generation of gaming consoles or the current one, they can enjoy the battle royale video game without having to make compromises. It is also available on smartphones and the Nintendo Switch.
While Fortnite Chapter 4 operates quite flawlessly on PCs, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, it is running into many problems on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Tabor Hill, a reputed Fortnite content creator, recently made a video showing all of the issues that the game is facing on these older consoles.
In his video, Hill revealed that PlayStation 4 is his favorite system. Unfortunately, Fortnite Battle Royale is almost unplayable on it. At the 3:53 mark of the video, there are several clips showcasing how the game fails to deliver on older-generation consoles. The first clip shows the game freezing for a second, right before Hill is about to take down an enemy.
The second clip shows the content creator being in a top 3 situation when the game freezes for a second once again. Some of the clips show Fortnite Chapter 4 freezing for more than a second, leaving the player completely exposed.
Will Epic Games fix this problem?
Considering that numerous players have complained about freezing issues on older gaming systems, Epic Games is probably aware of the problem. Unfortunately, the development team will not be able to fix these issues soon.
Shortly after the release of the v23.10 update on Tuesday, December 13, Epic Games went on its winter break. The development team has thus been unavailable to address or fix recent technical issues that players have been facing.
While it's certain that Epic will eventually fix these problems, players may have to wait for the next major update. Considering that the freezing issue is quite severe, it may take them some time to release an appropriate solution.
There is a chance that the next major Fortnite update will release on Tuesday, January 3. However, with the development team coming off winter break at around the same time, the update may be postponed to January 10.
In the meantime, players should keep reporting the problems they face and help developers deduce the exact cause.
