Possible reasons behind Assassin's Creed games freezing after Windows 11 24H2 update and how to potentially fix it
All things considered, the latest Windows 11 24H2 update is likely to blame for the freezing issue in Assassin's Creed games.
Following the update, countless players across social media have reported problems not just with the latest Assassin's Creed games but also with software features and hardware peripherals.
As such, the only possible solution is to not update to Windows 11 24H2 for those still on version 23H2 or before. If you have updated to 24H2, only two options remain. Either avoid playing the Assassin's Creed titles until a fix goes live or revert Windows 11 to the previous version.
Before we dive into the details, here is how you can check which version of Windows 11 you are running:
- Click on the Start button on the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Select "Settings" and click on the "System" tab from the left-side menu.
- Scroll down to the "About" option and click on it.
This will bring up detailed specifications for your system. If you have version 24H2, consider the Windows 11 version rollback, though this is only possible via the OS if the update was performed in the past 10 days.
Note: Performing a rollback may cause its own issues. Do this at your own risk and be sure to back up files if possible
Follow these steps if the Windows 11 24H2 update has been installed in the last 10 days:
- Click on the Start button on the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Select "Settings" and click on the "System" tab from the left-side menu.
- Head down to "Recovery" under the System tab.
- Here, select the Go Back option and follow the on-screen instructions to revert to the previous build on your PC.
Once you have reverted to a previous version. such as 23H2, you can redownload your games. including Assassin's Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, and play them without issues.
On the other hand, if it has been over 10 days since the Windows 11 24H2 update has been installed, your only option is to download and install an older version from a Windows 11 ISO file found online.
Unfortunately, Microsoft offers only the latest 24H2 build on their official website, so users will have to scour the internet for third-party ISO-hosting websites to grab the 23H2 build.
