EA Play and Ubisoft+ are some of the best video game subscription services available right now. Both industry giants have emerged as leading competitors in the field and offer compelling subscriptions, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. They have a vast library of game titles, with many early releases and DLCs to access.

However, choosing between the two can be confusing, given how closely comparable they are. While both are pretty lucrative offerings, they cater to different audiences. In this article, we will look into the differences between the two, and do a thorough comparison in terms of value for money, game catalog, and more.

To get a better idea about the EA Play vs Ubisoft+ comparison, we must look into the key differences between the two. EA Play has around 90 games, while Ubisoft+ offers more than a hundred titles to choose from, including early access and newly released games.

Both EA and Ubisoft allow you to download games for offline play. However, the offline playability on Ubisoft+ is far better as it comes with a dedicated "Offline Mode", while EA Play requires you to be online to verify that you're a user. Do note that you may have to tweak the settings to be fully offline with the Ubisoft+ Offline Mode, and based on reviews, it is not the most reliable.

Platform Availability

EA Play is available on all platforms, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. However, the Play Pro subscription is only available on PC.

Ubisoft+ on the other hand, has the Classics subscription available only on PC. So you need a Premium subscription to play on Xbox, and for the PlayStation, you need a PlayStation store subscription on top of the Ubisoft one. Thus, we feel EA Play is undeniably the better choice when it comes to compatibility.

Subscription costs

Play and Play Pro from EA are more affordable, whereas Ubisoft subscriptions can get expensive. However, we still feel it's a worthy price. Check out the plan pricing below.

EA Play:

  • EA Play - $5.99/month and $39.99/year
  • EA Play Pro - $16.99/month and $119.99/year

Ubisoft+:

  • Classics - $7.99/month and $59.99/year
  • Premium - $17.99/month and $134.99/year

EA Play vs Ubisoft+: Game catalog

As the name suggests, EA Play focuses on Electronic Arts titles like FIFA, Need for Speed, Battlefield, Madden NFL, and The Sims. Similarly, Ubisoft+ focuses on Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Tom Clancy's games (Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon), and Watch Dogs. However, Ubisoft+ has a larger game catalog than EA Play.

However, there is a catch. The Ubisoft+ Classics subscription features only around 36 games, which is quite disappointing. On the bright side, the Premium subscription features 112 titles. It varies with EA though, as you get 70 titles with the EA app, around 73 titles with a Play Pro subscription, 75 games for Xbox, and 50 for PlayStation. EA has a more diverse selection, but Ubisoft has a larger number of games in general.

Game Trials and Early Access

EA lets you play early-release titles for up to 10 hours, with the progress being carried over if you purchase the game. However, with Ubisoft, you need a Premium subscription to get access to early-release games.

EA Play vs Ubisoft+: Which has greater value for money

It is quite tricky to choose one subscription, as both of these offer different benefits that cater to different users. If value for money means a greater game catalog, Ubisoft would be the one to win. However, if we're talking platform compatibility, and overall greater access to early-release games, EA would be the way to go.

From a broader perspective, if you are a fan of EA titles, especially sports franchises and popular series, EA Play could be your ideal choice. On the other hand, if you're a Ubisoft enthusiast and want access to their entire library, including new releases with trials, Ubisoft+ offers greater value.

EA Play vs Ubisoft+: Final Verdict

It's hard to pick a winner. We feel both subscriptions are quite good, but each one has drawbacks in certain fields. We'd like to let you decide by giving you the benefits of each one:

Reasons to choose the Electronic Arts Play subscription:

  • More affordable
  • Better approach to early-access titles
  • Greater platform compatibility

Reasons to choose the Ubisoft+ subscription:

  • Larger game catalog
  • Greater selection of DLCs
  • Better for offline play

We hope this helps. Both of these subscriptions are worth it if you know what you're looking for. For more games and DLCs, choosing Ubisoft would be ideal. However, if you want better access to early-release titles and a generally more affordable subscription, go for EA.
