The Radeon RX 9000 series of GPUs has been leaked online, including some early performance figures for both rasterization and ray tracing. This massive leak was posted by the X user, @All_The_Watts, who has provided accurate RTX and Radeon leaks in the past.

For those unaware, the Radeon RX 9000 series will be powered by the RDNA 4 architecture, which is the successor to the RDNA 3 architecture launched in 2022. As per leaked information, AMD has decided to skip the Radeon RX 8000 naming scheme in favor of the 9000 series.

In this article, we will look at the rumored Radeon RX 9000 series of GPUs for the desktop and laptop markets and discuss what sort of performance these cards may offer.

Note: Some aspects of this article are subjective and solely reflect the writer's opinions. Also, please take the presented information with a grain of salt.

According to @All_The_Watts, here are all the new graphics cards rumored to be a part of it:

  • AMD Radeon™ RX 9070 Series Graphics chip (AMD Radeon™ RX 9070 and 9070 XT)
  • AMD Radeon™ RX 9060 Series Graphics chip
  • AMD Radeon™ RX 9050 Series Graphics chip
  • AMD Radeon™ RX 9040 Series Graphics chip

Going by the leaks, it seems like AMD will have four classes of graphics cards. However, we don't know the exact models of each series yet, except for the top options, which are allegedly AMD Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT. @All_The_Watts also mentioned that the former will be powered by the Navi 48 chip, while the latter will be configured by the Navi 44 chip.

Another X user, HXL @9550pro, has shared a leak from Chiphell forums. It mentions that the TDP for the reference variant could be around 26xW, while the custom/OC variants could go up to 330W.

@All_The_Watts also suggested that existing GPUs like Radeon RX 7600 series and Radeon RX 7700 XT could be rebranded. According to them, these will be named Radeon RX 7650 and 7750.

Leaked list of all Radeon RX 9000 series laptop GPUs

The leaked Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs for laptops are as follows:

  • AMD Radeon™ RX 9070M XT Graphics chip
  • AMD Radeon™ RX 9070M Graphics chip
  • AMD Radeon™ RX 9070S Graphics chip

Generally, the "M" variants have higher clock speeds and TDP, while the "S" models have more constrained clocks and TDP. No other details about the laptop graphics chip are available at the moment.

According to @All_The_Watts, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT will not surpass the Radeon RX 7900 XT in terms of performance but will be slightly faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE. The leaker also posted the Time Spy benchmark score of the new Radeon RX 9070 XT to validate their claims.

Here's how its score compared to other GPUs:

Radeon RX 9070 XTRadeon RX 7900 GRENvidia RTX 4070 Ti
3DMark Time Spy Benchmark22,89422,38622,839

The leaked Time Spy score of the Radeon RX 9070 XT suggests that it is indeed slightly faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE and the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti. However, it could be significantly slower than the RX 7900 XT model. Also, keep in mind that this score is from an early benchmark, and the final performance number could be higher at launch.

@All_The_Watts also posted the Port Royal score of the RX 9070 XT, which evaluates the ray-tracing performance. This GPU scored 14,723 points, which makes the new model 19% faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE. The ray-tracing performance is finally much closer to the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti, but the latter is still 7% faster.

Expected pricing of new Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs

According to @All_The_Watts, the Navi 48-based GPUs — like the Radeon RX 9070 XT — could cost between $449 and $649. On the other hand, the lower-end Navi 44-based graphics cards — such as the Radeon RX 9060 series — could cost $179-$349.
