The AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF 2) support is now officially available on ROG Ally handhelds. Ever since Team Red introduced its improved frame generation formula, it has been possible to use the frame generator in certain video games. However, the technology was not officially brought to the Z1 processor on board the device. That changes today, with Asus claiming over 200% performance improvements in certain video games.

The ROG Ally boasts significant performance improvements with the new AFMF technology

With the new and improved frame generation tech, the ROG Ally can now deliver even higher framerates than before while being more power efficient. As per AMD and Asus, AFMF is supposed to increase FPS by 200-250%, which is a massive improvement for devices with weaker GPUs like the Ally.

However, you'll have to factor in the added latency and visual artifacts. Although rare, there can be graphical glitches with AI-based upscaling and framerate-boosting technologies like AFMF.

Performance gains reported in some demanding titles by YouTuber Quick Expert Reviews are as follows:

AFMF off (FPS)AFMF on (FPS)
Helldivers 23778
Fallout 7642100
Cyberpunk 20773462

Overall, AFMF 2 is a welcome addition to the ROG handheld. It is widely supported across multiple games and can even be turned on in games that don't officially have support. This adds some extra shelf life to devices like the Ally that are already limited by their rendering potential.
