When it comes to mid-range to premium gaming laptops, a comparison between MSI Pulse and ASUS ROG Zephyrus would be an interesting one. The comparison is quite fair, but also a little too far-fetched in some cases as the Zephyrus is a more premium gaming laptop and offers far superior features. Even price-wise, they're vastly different, as the Zephyrus starts at the $2000 price mark.

However, if you are in the market and are confused about choosing these laptops, you have come to the right place. In this article, we will delve into the specifications, features, display, and more in the MSI Pulse and ASUS ROG Zephyrus comparison.

Based on the specifications, you can tell that these are two very different laptops. The only fields they share similarities are GPU, RAM, and storage. Not only does the Zephyrus have a far better display, but it also performs significantly better than the Pulse. We'll look into that in the section below.

MSI Pulse vs ASUS ROG Zephyrus: Performance

Now, if you saw the specs table above, it should be quite obvious that the ROG Zephyrus is insanely powerful. Not only does it have a far better processor, but it also has one of the most advanced GPUs of today, the RTX 4090. With specs like that, all you need is the large-screen variant and you are pretty much set for years to come.

However, the Pulse series is in no way inferior, unless we directly compare it to the top-end Zephyrus variant. Comparing two vastly different laptops with different specs would be absurd, so we're sticking to the RTX 4070 performance of the two laptops. As they feature the same amount of RAM, that shouldn't be an issue.

The framerates you see in the table below have been sourced from the GizmoSlipTech YouTube channel and are conducted on laptops with RTX 4070 GPU. However, the processors aren't the exact same, as both laptops feature different chips.

We see superb numbers on both laptops. However, do note that the settings aren't entirely the same, so you can expect greater numbers from both laptops by tweaking the settings a bit.

All in all, it is obvious that the Zephyrus is better in terms of performance, but this upgrade isn't entirely necessary as the Pulse is still a solid choice. The final decision would come down to your needs and preferences.

MSI Pulse vs ASUS ROG Zephyrus: Display and battery life

The Asus ROG Zephyrus has a much better display, however, it does not come in a 15" variant, which is typically the most popular. It has a 14" and a 16" variant, with 2.5K and QHD+ resolution, which are roughly similar. The Pulse on the other hand, features a 15.6" and 17.3" display with FHD and QHD screens.

Also, the top-end variant of the Zephyrus comes with an additional display, which could be quite useful for design and creative work, but doesn't equate to much in terms of gaming.

When it comes to battery, they feature the same 90Wh battery life on their top-end models but are slightly different when it comes to affordable variants. The budget Pulse laptop features a 53Wh battery, while the low-end Zephyrus laptop gets 73Wh.

Thus, the Asus has a better display and battery but comes with a hefty package, so the final choice would come down to your budget limitations and needs.

MSI Pulse vs ASUS ROG Zephyrus: Value for money

We feel the Pulse series offers greater value for money. The reason is, the fact that the Pulse offers incredible performance in and around $1000. The additional performance you see on the Zephyrus isn't really necessary for the most part as the RTX 4070 on Pulse is more than capable of running games at the best settings.

If we're talking about the display, MSI does get a QHD, and the additional display on the Zephyrus is more centered toward creators and designers, so it isn't that essential for gaming.

To get into prices, the MSI Pulse series starts at around $839 and goes up to $1479. The Asus ROG Zephyrus series, on the other hand, starts at $2199 and goes up to $3999, proving to be hugely different.

Thus, speaking money-wise, the MSI offers a greater bang for the buck and would be the ideal choice if you're tight on budget. If you are, however, able to afford it, do go for the Zephyrus as the benefits are obvious.

MSI Pulse vs ASUS ROG Zephyrus: Final Verdict

In this comparison of the MSI Pulse and Asus ROG Zephyrus, the win clearly goes to the Zephyrus. Now, this was quite obvious as it features far better specs, display, and battery life. However, it does have a hefty price point and caters more towards design and creative work.

Thus, if you're looking for a gaming laptop exclusively, we suggest you go for the MSI Pulse series as it has great performance and display and passable battery life. You wouldn't be at a loss with either one, so the question only comes down to what you can afford.
