Xbox Live is down. Multiple users have reported getting an error code "0x87dd0033" or "0x80004005" while logging into their consoles or the Windows app. Down Detector already has over 10,400 users reporting an outage.
We analyzed the issue, and it turns out Xbox has begun scheduled maintenance for the "Games and gaming" feature on its platform. The Xbox Series X, Series S, Xbox One, Cloud Gaming, and the Xbox App on Windows are affected.
Update (07/03): All Xbox servers have been fixed and services are back online.
Here are some tricks that might help you get back to the platforms as soon as they get fixed.
How to fix Xbox Live down?
Xbox Live outage issues mostly happen due to a server-side error. For now, you can try these fixes:
Step 1: Restart your gaming PC or console
A plain old restart helps fix most issues with computers. Although this trick won't work until the server-side issues have been patched, it's still worth a shot.
Step 2: Restart the Xbox app/game
If you're on an Xbox console, try restarting the game you want to play. On PC, try restarting the Xbox app. Like the previous fix, it'll only work once the issue has been patched from Xbox's end.
If Xbox Live isn't working for you, try restarting that too.
Step 3: Clear the download/console cache
Clearing the console's cache can help if you're stuck with the error for a prolonged period. Follow these steps:
- Turn off the console. To do this, press and hold the Xbox button at the front for 10 seconds. This will shut it down completely.
- Next, unplug the console from the wall and wait for about 10 seconds.
- Replug the console power only after 10 seconds have lapsed.
- Press the console's button to turn it back on.
Although these steps can help you get back online, none of these will work until the service is back up. Xbox hasn't provided a timeline of when they'll end maintenance. For now, all you can do is wait.
