Following a flood of recent leaks, Nintendo may now look to showcase the Switch 2 earlier than intended. According to industry analyst Serkan Toto, who spoke with Eurogamer about the upcoming game console, the recent barrage of Nintendo Switch 2 hardware and peripheral leaks will seemingly force the company's hand to take the covers off the console soon — possibly as early as January 2025.
This lines up with recent rumors from industry insiders about a potential showcase and launch around a similar time frame of Q1 2025. Here are the details.
Nintendo Switch 2 may be revealed in January 2025, potential launch in the same month as its predecessor
New leaks have surfaced suggesting that the much-anticipated console will finally be made available to the public in March 2025 — which interestingly would line up with the original Switch launch, back in March 2017.
This comes from a user on the Chinese social media site Weibo, who leaked several games from the June 2024 Nintendo Direct and recently suggested that the next-gen platform's first showcase will take place on January 8, 2024.
Mr. Toto implied the same, saying:
"Nintendo will not have much time in January, so a potential announcement early in the month could make sense."
He further elaborated on the potential situation inside the company in the light of several leaks:
"You can bet that Nintendo is aware of all the leaks and not happy about them, even if some of them will turn out to be made up. It is actually getting so bad with those leaks that they might cause Nintendo to release information earlier than planned."
This arrives following the aftermath of a series of leaks from legitimate sources, such as Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and peripherals. Assuming that Mr. Toto's analysis is true and that Nintendo has been forced to reveal the console next month, it implies that they wanted to keep the public waiting for even longer.
In fact, we have already had developers express frustration with Nintendo's refusal to unveil the curtain on their next-gen hardware, so much so that some have already sneakily announced ports of their games for Nintendo's upcoming console. In short, a storm is brewing and we're starting to feel the effects of it.

Will Nintendo finally make a move? We will have to be patient and wait until January to see what moves the company behind legendary classics like Super Mario and Legend of Zelda makes.
