The Nintendo June 2024 Direct livestream is now confirmed for June 18 at 7 AM PT. The console maker took to multiple social media platforms to confirm this news this Monday. The announcement underscored that the "Nintendo Switch successor" will not be introduced in this presentation, which has let down some enthusiasts.
News of the Switch 2 spread like wildfire early last month when Shuntaro Furukuwa, Nintendo's president, confirmed their next console will be announced this financial year in an earnings call. I wrote about those leaks and speculated an announcement to take place late this year with a launch window of late 2024 to Spring 2025. Turns out, those expectations were a bit right.
What to expect from Nintendo's June 2024 Direct event?
Previously, we got a look at the upcoming games the Japanese video game maker is planning for this year. Tomorrow's Nintendo Direct event will outline all the games expected to launch on the Switch this Holiday season.
For now, the list includes titles like Persona 3: Aegis The First Mission, Metroid Prime 4, Fire Emblem 4 Remake, and some third-party titles. Some recent and upcoming titles like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD (Remaster), Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Remake), and Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition could also make an appearance at the event.
It seems the Switch still has a full year left in its lifespan. The console was launched in early 2017, which makes it seven years old already. The company is likely looking at an eight-year life span, given it continues to be powerful enough to handle the latest titles.
Moreover, the hybrid device is insanely popular, with over 141.32 million units as of May 2024. This could be another reason Nintendo is stalling a successor. In contrast, the last console from the Japanese company, Wii U, had a very short life span of just four and a half years.
When and where to watch Nintendo June 2024 Direct?
Gamers can tune into the event tomorrow, June 18, at 10 AM ET, 3 PM BST, and 7.30 PM IST. It will be live-streamed on the Nintendo YouTube and Twitch channels. As per the announcement, the Direct will run for about 40 minutes.
