Leaks regarding the potentially upcoming RTX 5090 and 5080 have flooded the internet for some time. While the leakers agreed on most of the specs, the topic of power consumption was an exception. For those unaware, TBP stands for total board power, otherwise known as total power consumption. A lower TBP or power consumption is always better.

Kopite7kimi, a reputed leaker, had claimed earlier that the 5090 and 5080 would have 600W and 400W TBP, respectively. However, a new leak disagrees.

This article analyzes the new TBP leaks regarding the two unreleased flagship GPUs and explains what it could mean for an average consumer.

Power consumption (TBP) of the Nvidia RTX 5090 and 5080 leaked

The X user, @Kopite7kimi, previously posted that Nvidia RTX 5090 and 5080 would reportedly have 600W and 400W TBPs, respectively. However, others disagreed and believed these numbers were lower, in the mid-400W and 300W ranges. It seems none of those figures were right.

@Kopite7kimi now believes the RTX 5080 and 5080 TBP figures are going to be lower, but not as low as other leaks mention. When an X user, @hongxing2020, posted an update saying RTX 5090 should have 575W, @Kopite7kimi followed up on that post and added that the RTX 5080 would have 360W.

Therefore, the power consumption of RTX 5090 and 5080 should reportedly be 575W and 360W, respectively, as per the latest leak. It is possible that the 600W and 400W TBPs were the targets Nvidia initially decided on but later changed during the testing phase. This would explain why there's a sudden change in power consumption. Nonetheless, we should hear more during CES 2025.
