The Nvidia RTX 4060 and Radeon RX 6800 are polar opposites. The Nvidia GPU is designed for budget PCs, while the AMD card is intended for higher-end PC builds. However, the former is almost four years old now, while the latter launched in 2023 and is only a year old. Can this new RTX 4060 video card beat the older RX 6800 GPU?
Let's compare the two graphics cards and see which comes out to the top.

Nvidia RTX 4060 vs AMD Radeon RX 6800
The RTX 4060 is based on Nvidia's Ada Lovelace architecture, which brought a lot of performance and efficiency improvements. On the other hand, the Radeon RX 6800 is designed on AMD's RDNA 3 architecture, which focuses on delivering higher core clock speeds, memory clocks, and more. But before we start comparing the performance of the two GPUs, let's check their specs.
Specs comparison
Here are the specs of RTX 4060 and Radeon RX 6800:
The specs show that the major differences between the two GPUs lie in the core counts, VRAM size, and VRAM bandwidth. In fact, the VRAM size and bandwidth of the RX 6800 are almost twice as much as those of the Nvidia card. However, the power consumption of the AMD graphics card is also twice that of the RTX 4060, so it will probably need a better Power Supply Unit (PSU).
If you are buying the Radeon GPU for an existing PC, make sure the PSU has enough power for the card. However, if you are building a new PC, buy a higher-wattage power supply unit in the first place, which will also help ease future hardware upgrades. On the contrary, the RTX graphics card will be fine for most PSUs.
Performance comparison
The specs may have made it seem like the AMD card would win even before we began the comparison. While specs can give you a general indication of performance, it doesn't paint the full picture. It's time we put the specs aside and look at the actual performance of the two graphics cards in real-world tasks. All the FPS numbers have been sourced from the DatGamerDude channel on YouTube.
Note: The two video cards were tested at 1440p resolution with high/ultra settings.
On average, the Radeon RX 6800 delivers 55% more performance. In Resident Evil 4 Remake, the AMD delivered almost double the FPS of the RTX 4060. It goes to show just how powerful this Radeon GPU is. It is a better choice of graphics card if you plan to use it for the long term.
The Nvidia graphics card often dips below 60 FPS in certain games, but if you play them at 1080p, the performance may get close to 60. Comparatively, the AMD video card performs so well that it will allow you to play many games at 4K resolution.
Pricing
As of writing this, the Radeon RX 6800 costs $359.99, which is 26% more than the cost of the RTX 4060 ($284.99).
Verdict
The Radeon RX 6800 is a better GPU than the RTX 4060. It will provide 55% more gaming performance than the Nvidia card and only costs 26% more. I strongly recommend this AMD graphics card, and you will get an absolute bargain with it. However, if you are under a strict budget and need a GPU under $300, then you can choose the RTX 4060.
