The Nvidia RTX 5070 has finally been revealed at CES 2025. It was the first GPU showcased by CEO Jensen Huang as an ode to the efficiency improvements of this generation. We also got a glimpse at RTX 50 series laptops, which bring all the performance uplifts in a portable form factor. While Huang mentioned Blackwell would start shipping in January, we don't have an exact launch date for the 5070 yet.

Here's everything you need to know about the latest 70-class cards. Just like last time, there's a 5070 and a 5070 Ti this year.

What are the specs of the Nvidia RTX 5070?

The 5070 is a step up from the last generation in terms of the underlying hardware. The GPU packs 6,144 CUDA cores, 94 RT cores TFLOPS, and 988 Tensor cores TOPS, which is about 20% more than the last generation. This, coupled with the gen-on-gen improvements of the Blackwell architecture, translates to a high-performance uplift.

The GPU packs 12 GB of GDDR7 memory, with a total bandwidth of 672 GB/sec. Moreover, it is rated at 250W, which also makes it more power-hungry than the last generation.

The detailed 5070 specs are as follows:

SpecificationNvidia RTX 5070
CUDA Cores6144
RT Cores TFLOPS94
VRAM TypeGDDR7
VRAM Size12 GB
Memory Bandwidth672 GB/s
Memory Bus192-bit
Slot WidthDual-slot

The price of the 5070 stays the same as the last generation. It will cost you $549 while delivering all the extra performance improvements.

When will the Nvidia RTX 5070 launch?

The Nvidia Blackwell lineup is in mass production, as was mentioned by Jensen Huang. While the company expects to bring the new 50 series cards to the market in January, no exact launch dates have been mentioned yet. However, given previous launch trends and some leaks, we can expect the cards to drop sometime in February. Do note that the exact launch date might deviate from this speculation.

What is the performance of the Nvidia RTX 5070?

The 5070 is touted to beat the 4090 in total performance (Image via Nvidia)

In terms of performance uplifts, we are looking at RTX 4090-level performance in gaming. Moreover, Blackwell is also an AI-focused architecture with hardware specifically designed to deliver extra performance in deep learning and natural language processing tasks.

The RT cores are now twice as fast as the last generation with the shaders delivering up to 50% extra performance. Nvidia claims 988 AI TOPS with this GPU. Taking the whole package, with 4090-level gaming performance and the latest AI capabilities, this card seems to be a capable option for gamers. However, we'll have to wait for reviewer benchmarks to get a real look into how performance compares.
