The Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti is among the company's latest Blackwell launches. It replaces the last-gen alternative with a lower price tag, better performance, and support for the latest rendering and upscaling technologies. The card is slated for a February 2025 launch and will replace the 4070 Ti Super, which delivers decent 1440p and 4K framerates.

In this article, we will pitch the two 70-class cards against each other and try to figure out which could be the better option for high-framerate gaming.

The RTX 5070 Ti targets a similar performance bracket as the last-gen 4070 Ti. You get premium 1440p and 4K capabilities with both cards, which makes them lucrative buys in the sub-$1,000 range.

Specs comparison

Coming to the on-paper specs, you get some of the most needed hardware lists with both GPUs. The 4070 Ti packs the AD104 graphics chip, which is a slight downgrade compared to the 4080.

In terms of core counts, the newer 5070 Ti takes the lead as Nvidia has propped up the card to deliver even better framerates at high resolutions. The card ships with 8,960 CUDA cores, up from the 4070 Ti's 7,680. However, the GPU gets slightly worse in terms of power efficiency, drawing up to 300W under full load. The last-gen alternative was rated at 285W.

Moreover, the memory count has gone up as well. While the 4070 Ti shipped with 12 GB of GDDR6X VRAM, the newer Blackwell variant comes with 16 GB of faster GDDR7 memory. In terms of memory bandwidth, we are looking at a 77% improvement. Do note, however, that the revamped 4070 Ti Super came with the increased 16 GB buffer.

The detailed specs lists of the two GPUs are as follows:

Performance comparison

Performance is the chief point of consideration for most gamers. In this aspect, Nvidia has shown off up to twice the framerates as compared to the older card. This is, however, with DLSS 4 multi-frame generation turned on.

The latest iteration of the upscaling tech can create several upcoming frames in one go, thereby improving the overall performance by a much higher factor.

The gains depend on the specific name and workload as well. In titles like Far Cry 6, we are looking at a more modest 30-40% gain, while titles that utilize Nvidia's technologies to the fullest, like Cyberpunk 2077, deliver up to twice the framerate.

It is still advisable to wait for independent reviews to gauge the improvements across multiple factors such as rasterization, ray tracing, and others.

Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti vs RTX 4070 Ti: Final thoughts

The 5070 Ti seems like a promising high-end graphics card for enthusiasts. Per Nvidia's claims, the GPU is supposed to be faster than the RTX 4090 in video games. This could be a particularly bold claim, given the flagship GPU is about 60% faster than the 4070 Ti. Thus, it is important to look at the rasterization gains to make more accurate decisions.

The RTX 5070 Ti seems like a promising purchase for gamers. We recommend waiting till February, when the tech hits the market, to gauge the exact difference in performance before pulling the trigger on your next upgrade.
