Nvidia has finally unveiled its latest and greatest GPU: the RTX 5090. The card has been designed from the ground up for gaming enthusiasts, with even better performance capabilities than the RTX 4090. You get the newest innovations from the multi-trillion dollar company, with hardware specs pushed to the maximum. In the consumer PC market, a more powerful solution simply doesn't exist.

In this article, we have summed up everything to know about the new king of video game processing units.

What are the specs of the Nvidia RTX 5090?

The RTX 5090 has been filled to the brim with the latest Blackwell technology for the best performance. It is based on the flagship GB202 graphics chip, with 21,760 CUDA, 170 RT, and 680 RT cores.

In this generation, you also get a bump in the total VRAM buffer. The card now pairs 32 GB of next-gen GDDR7 memory based on a 512-bit bus. This results in a massive bandwidth of 1.79 TB/s.

Thanks to the efficiency improvements, even this behemoth of a GPU fits in two slots, at least for Nvidia's Founders Edition edition. Third-party manufacturers have come up with bigger three-slot designs.

Here are the detailed specs of the RTX 5090:

SpecificationNvidia RTX 5090
CUDA Cores21,760
RT Cores170
VRAM TypeGDDR7
VRAM Size32 GB
Memory Bandwidth1.79 TB/s
Memory Bus512-bit
Slot WidthDual-slot
TDP575 W
Suggested PSU950 W
Outputs
1x HDMI 2.1b, 3x DisplayPort 2.1b

Another thing that has gone up this generation is the power budget. This GPU is rated at a whopping 575W, much higher than the 4090's 450W TDP. However, this is just a maximum limit, and the power draw during games should be much lower.

What is the price of the Nvidia RTX 5090?

The 5090 has a $1,999 price tag, which is significantly more than the 4090's launch price of $1,599. However, Nvidia claims the card delivers twice the performance in video games and is a tier above the last-generation 90-class offering.

Regardless, the 5090 is a pretty expensive card and can drill a hole in your pocket if you're looking for a more cost-effective PC.

The RTX 5090 has been fully unveiled at the CES 2025 keynote presentation. Availability will vary from region to region. However, the card goes up for pre-orders on January 7. In an emailed press release, the company revealed the exact launch date to be January 30, 2025.

The Blackwell GPU utilizes gen-on-gen performance improvements and the bumped-up specs sheet to deliver significant framerate improvements in the latest video games.

With the new lineup, Nvidia has introduced multi-frame generation with DLSS 4, which, as the name suggests, helps generate several future frames at once, thereby improving FPS by an even higher number than DLSS 3.

Based on the hardware and software innovations, the company claims the 5090 will deliver twice the performance of the older 4090. This could be particularly useful for high refresh rate 4K gaming. The GPU is particularly well-suited for the flagship QD-OLED panels that are launching now.

Overall, the 5090 is set to be an expensive, power-hungry king of the gaming GPU market. It is unclear whether Nvidia would have to launch a Super or Ti variant to add to the card's rendering potential, given how powerful it already is. For now, those with the cash can have a potent pixel pusher installed in their system without spending tens of thousands of dollars on their GPUs.
