Sony rolled out a new PS5 system software update on July 23, 2024. The patch notes mention improvements in different social features, firmware stability tweaks, and DualSense software updates. Also, it is now easier to bring other players to your sessions.

PS5 system software update (July 23, 2024): Download size and patch notes

The new PS5 system software update is specified as Version: 24.05-09.60.00. Notably, the download size for this is 1.9 GB.

Here are all the official patch notes for this version:

1) You can now invite other players to game sessions by sharing a URL to the session.

  • To invite other players, open the game session action card and select Share Link. Then, scan the QR code using your mobile device to share the link.
  • This feature is available only for open sessions that anyone can join.
  • This feature will gradually be rolled out to all players by July 24, 2024.

2) Voice Command now supports the ability to open Game Help action cards by saying "Show Game Help."

  • Currently, Voice Command (Preview) is available only in English for players with PlayStation Network accounts in the US and UK.

3) The performance and stability of the system software have been improved.

4) The device software of some DualSense wireless controllers has been updated to improve stability.

5) The messages and usability on some screens have been improved.

How to download the PS5 system software update

The PS5 can update its system software automatically when you connect it to the internet by doing the following:

  • Select "Settings," located at the top right corner of the home.
  • Go to System → System Software → System Software Update and Settings.
  • Look out for the "Update System Software" option and select it if it indicates an update is available.
  • When you choose "Update Using Internet," the console will fetch the update from Sony's servers.
  • Choose "Update" to kickstart the procedure.

Following that, your PS5 will proceed to download and apply the update. The system will reboot as part of this process.

Using a USB drive

An option is available for you to install the PS5 system software update manually by using a USB drive. Go to the PlayStation website and download the file that contains the PS5 system software update.

Afterward, plug the USB drive into your computer and ensure it is formatted in either FAT32 or exFAT. Then, follow these steps:

  • Create a new folder on the USB drive: "PS5."
  • Create a subfolder under the previous folder named "UPDATE."
  • Now, paste the PS5 update file into the "UPDATE" subfolder.
  • Connect the USB drive to your PS5, and once you're on the main screen, click on "Settings."
  • After that, go to System → System Software → System Software Update and Settings and click on "Update From USB Drive."
  • Select "Update."

The PS5 will fetch the update file from the USB drive and then proceed with installing it.
