The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is available in most countries. On the other hand, the Google Pixel Fold's availability is limited to the U.S., the U.K., Japan, and Germany.

However, the Pixel Fold's base variant with 256GB storage is currently $100 cheaper than the starting variant of the Z Fold6, which also comes with 256GB internal storage. Both smartphones come with 12GB RAM.

Samsung takes the lead in this area, as the inner panel of the Z Fold6 supports a higher peak brightness of 2600 nits. The cover display of the Z Fold6 with a 6.3-inch screen size, is also larger than the Pixel Fold's 5.8-inch display. Samsung has also provided LTPO support on both its displays, which ensures variable refresh rates according to the usage and helps in conserving the battery,

In terms of main display dimensions, both smartphones get the same 7.6-inch inner screen and an AMOLED panel with a 120Hz peak refresh rate. However, Samsung's offering has better colors and brightness, and has fewer bezels across all sides, which makes it great for content consumption.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has an edge in terms of processing power as it comes loaded with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. You get 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage for the Z Fold6.

However, Samsung hasn't increased the battery capacity or charging speed. The phone still comes with a 4,400mAh battery with 25W charging support, like last year's model. Google also offers a powerful chipset with the Pixel Fold. Sadly, the Google Tensor G2, with its throttling and battery draining issues, delivers lower battery life despite its bigger 4.821mAh battery pack.

Google's Tensor G2 chipset also scores quite less than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in benchmark tests. Moreover, the phone uses an inferior UFS 3.1 flash storage and is only available with up to 512GB of storage.

Like any other Google Pixel smartphone, The Pixel Fold has many AI camera features that give it an edge over other smartphone manufacturers. Although the Z Fold6 comprises a higher resolution 50MP main, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto sensor, the Pixel Fold has a distinct advantage in low-lighting conditions. Aided by Google's wonderful camera AI features, its 48MP main, 10.8MP telephoto and 10.8MP ultrawide angle camera sensors shoot much better photos and videos in darker environments.

The selfie camera setup is slightly different on both phones. While the Pixel Fold uses a traditional front camera, which is located inside the thick internal bezel, Samsung offers a 4MP lens, which is under the display. It presents a full-screen view but isn’t very useful for clicking pictures or attending video calls. Both phones also have selfie cameras on their cover displays.

Overall, both smartphones can take great photos in daylight conditions, but the Z Fold6 falls behind in clicking selfies and in low-lighting conditions.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 vs Google Pixel Fold: Verdict

For the majority, the Z Fold6 should be the better buy in 2024. It comes with a superior chipset, provides a much better display and battery experience, and is more easily available. Samsung has also included a lot of AI features in its One UI operating system that make the phone much more user-friendly.

That being said, if you want a folding smartphone with more focus on cameras, the Pixel Fold is still the better choice. It is also currently available at a cheaper asking price and its wider cover display is much easier to use for normal daily tasks.
