OnePlus released the OnePlus Open last year, and the device has a lot of things working in its favor to challenge the latest foldable flagship from Samsung.
But which one of the two is worth buying in 2024? In this article, we compare the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 with the OnePlus Open in detail to determine our winner. Let us begin.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 vs OnePlus Open: Which foldable phone is better?
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 vs OnePlus Open: Overall specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has a starting price of $1899, which is $100 more than the last generation Z Fold5. The OnePlus Open, on the other hand, is available for $1699 for the single 16GB RAM and 512GB storage variant. Furthermore, since its launch a few months ago, the OnePlus foldable has seen various price cuts and can be grabbed for $1399 during various promotional sales.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 vs OnePlus Open: Display
The OnePlus Open has a larger 7.8-inch main display compared to the 7.6-inch internal screen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. However, both the external screens have 6.3-inch dimensions. Both phones use OLED displays with HDR and LTPO support, ensuring good battery life.
Given that the OnePlus Open has a wider internal display, it makes sense that it is a tad more difficult to hold than the Z Fold6. Both phones do a good job of trying to hide the crease in the inner display with the help of their sturdy hinge designs.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 vs OnePlus Open: Performance, battery
When it comes to performance, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 has the upper hand, as it comes with the newer and faster Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset coupled with 12GB of RAM. Samsung has also provided an improved vapor chamber to help keep the phone running cooler under heavy loads.
That’s not to say that the OnePlus Open is unusably slower, as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a very powerful and capable chipset for most daily tasks or gaming. The device also comes with higher 16GB RAM support and its 512GB storage can be considered a sizeable offering, considering the 256GB storage on the base variant of the Z Fold6.
Samsung, unfortunately, hasn't provided an upgrade in the battery department with the Z Fold6. The device has a 4400mAh battery with 25W charging support, similar to last year's Z Fold5. In comparison, the OnePlus Open fits a large 4,805mAh battery with 68W charging. Both phones support reverse wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 vs OnePlus Open: Camera
Both phones come with triple-camera setups. The OnePlus Open has a 48MP main aided by a 48MP ultra-wide sensor and a 64MP telephoto with up to 3X optical zoom. Samsung has also finally upgraded the primary camera of its foldable, as the Z Fold6 comes with a 50MP main sensor, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus.
In terms of selfie and cover screen cameras, the OnePlus Open provides higher resolution 20MP and 32MP sensors respectively in place of the 4MP and 10MP sensors available on the Z Fold6. However, the Z Fold6 uses an under-display selfie camera.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 vs OnePlus Open: Verdict
The OnePlus Open is certainly one of the best foldable phones in the market for most users, even though it launched last year. It provides better cameras, battery life, and charging speed, and is available at a lower cost when compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6.
However, Samsung's latest foldable tries to justify its $200 higher price by providing intuitive AI features, S-pen support, a more powerful chipset, and longer software support. So, if you value those features more then the Z Fold6 is the better choice for you in 2024.
