Sony has just announced a new beta update for all PlayStation 5 models. It brings several new features, including the ability to create 3D audio profiles and more, to enhance the experience of the PlayStation owners. This beta will be released tomorrow, July 25th, 2024, at Pacific time to every user enrolled in the beta program.

In this article, we will discuss everything the new update brings and how it can help you.

Note: Some aspects of this article are subjective, and the information presented here may change when the update comes out of beta.

Here are all the features of the new PS5 beta update:

Create personalized 3D audio profiles (Headphones and earbuds)

3D audio was a key innovation that allowed the PlayStation 5 system to deliver a truly immersive audio experience. However, the same audio profile does not work for every individual since everyone has a different shape and size for their head, ear, and ear canal.

This new update aims to introduce the ability to create a unique profile for every individual based on their headset and ear structure. However, this must be set individually for every user. Multiple headsets, headphones, and earphones are already supported, and more may be added to the list shortly.

Remote Play can be enabled individually for each profile

If multiple family members use the same PlayStation 5, you can now set up the Remote Play feature for every user individually. You can also disable it for a particular user, maybe a child if you wish to do so.

You just need to go to [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play] > [Enable Remote Play], and choose who should have access to the Remote Play feature.

Adaptive charging is here for all the controllers

The goal of the adaptive charging feature is to help save energy by cutting off power to the controller's USB port when the PlayStation 5 enters sleep mode based on the former's current battery level. It should activate when you have a decent battery charge and has the potential to minimize power bills and extend the health of the controller's battery.

Special Notes

Things to keep in mind:

  • The Adaptive charging feature only works with the DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, PS VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller when they are connected via the included USB Type-C port on the latest PlayStation 5 slim console.
  • PS5 beta access will be available to beta users residing in the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France for now.
  • Personalized 3D audio profiles won't be available during PS5 cloud game streaming.

How to get the beta update

To get the update, go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software (beta) > Update, and the update will show up tomorrow. However, make sure you accept the beta invitation, or you may not receive the update. Users who are not part of the beta program will have to wait for the stable release.
