What sort of performance can you expect from the Lenovo Legion Go S?
The Ryzen Z2 Go chipset is actually a downgrade compared to the Ryzen Z1 Extreme in the original Lenovo Legion Go. The CPU is based on the Zen 3+ architecture instead of the faster Zen 4-based cores in Ryzen Z1 Extreme. However, the GPU has a higher number of compute cores, so it will have a slightly better gaming performance.
In terms of actual performance, it should be slightly faster than the Lenovo Legion Go. However, it is nowhere close to the performance boost expected from its bigger brother, Lenovo Legion Go 2, which might launch alongside it at CES 2025. Lenovo's CES event, “Lenovo Legion x AMD: The Future of Gaming Handhelds,” might shine some light on the possible device.
You lose the detachable controller functionality with the Lenovo Legion Go S — present in the Legion Go. Therefore, it doesn't look like much of an upgrade. The true upgrade would be the Lenovo Legion Go 2 handheld.
