Apple is gearing up to preview its slew of next-generation iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS at WWDC 2023. The company has recently rolled out iOS 16.5, iPadOS 16.5, macOS Ventura 16.4, WatchOS 9.5, and tvOS 16.5. These updates are the prelude to the next generation of software. Apple has announced that the WWDC 2023 will commence on June 5 and run until June 9 this year.
While WWDC is typically meant for previewing software for developers, Apple is known for showcasing a hardware or two at the event, mostly iPads or MacBooks. This year is no exception, as the rumor mill suggests that Apple might launch a few hardware at the WWDC 2023.
Apple hardware expected at WWDC 2023
According to various speculations and leaks, Apple has a lineup of hardware to be announced at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference 2023. The entire conference will be hosted online with a special in-person experience for developers and students at Apple Park on the opening day (June 5).
Here's the list of top hardware launches expected at the upcoming WWDC 2023 event.
1) Apple AR/VR headset
The Cupertino-based tech giant is rumored to be working on its Pro Reality AR/VR headset for years now. The device is speculated to come with an impressive 8K display, multiple cameras, and more. The Apple AR/VR headset is expected to arrive with a hefty price tag and is said to be geared toward developers. Hence it makes sense for the brand to showcase it at the WWDC 2023.
Apple is also rumored to introduce its xrOS (extended reality OS) at the event, which will back the headset. The xrOS is said to be intended for communication and entertainment mainly. However, even if Apple previews the headset at the event, it won't launch until later in the year. Nevertheless, this is one of the major reasons to look forward to the event.
2) 15-inch MacBook Air
Apple is rumored to be working on a bigger-sized version of the current MacBook Air 13-inch for those who want a large display in a slim profile. The 15-inch MacBook Air might see the light of day at the WWDC.
Apart from bringing a larger 15-inch display, there are reportedly no other changes. It means we might see the same Apple M2 or M2 Pro-powered MacBook Air with a larger display and the same camera notch, flat design, and specifications. Rumors suggest that the new machine might cost $1,299 to $1,499.
3) Mac Pro
Apple is known for launching Mac Pros at its WWDC event, and we can see one being launched this year as well. Mac Pro is the only Mac device in Apple's lineup that has yet to transition to Apple's M-series chipset.
Rumors are rife that we might see the launch of a Mac Pro that might sport the current infamous cheesegrater design and an M2 Ultra processor.
4) iMac
Apple has not launched an iMac model in a couple of years since the 24-inch iMac. The company also discontinued the 27-inch iMac when it launched Mac Studio in 2022. It's a distant possibility that WWDC 2023 might witness a new iMac.
However, it is advised to take this bit with a pinch of salt since there have been reports that Apple might launch the next iMac with an M2 chipset at the fall event. We might not see an iMac launch until later this year or in 2024.
These are the hardware launches expected at this year's WWDC. While some of these are a distant possibility, some might have their covers taken off at the event, like the headset and the MacBook Air. Which of these launches are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments section.
