Xiaomi recently launched its most ambitious and camera-centric flagship, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, in the European markets. The smartphone has incredible camera features, and Xiaomi's partnership with Leica means you will get great images in almost any lighting condition or environment. The Xiaomi 13 Pro, on the other hand, also boasts a great camera setup with the same large 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor powering the primary sensor on both smartphones to give you fantastic images and videos, even in low light.

Hence, the differences between the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro are minute yet critical. While the latter has one of the best camera setups in its price range, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra offers several additional camera features, including an extra periscope lens with up to 5X optical zoom and variable aperture. So, we now compare the two smartphones and see if the Ultra is worth the additional price.

Regarding the main differences between the two smartphones, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is better than the Xiaomi 13 Pro, mainly in zooming capabilities. The 3X optical zoom on the Pro model is already great, but it is undoubtedly inferior to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

On the other hand, the dedicated 50MP super-telephoto camera or the periscope lens on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has a 5x optical zoom. Moreover, it can be zoomed out to 10x with the aid of AI and digital in-sensor technologies.

Performance

Both smartphones come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the fastest Android processor. The chipset has excellent peak performance, and with its 4nm fabrication, you can also expect stellar battery life with it.

The Snapdragon Gen 2 chipset delivers almost 40 percent better CPU performance and 45 percent better GPU performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It also heats up relatively less than its predecessor.

Display

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra and the Xiaomi 13 Pro are similar in display units. Both smartphones have a 6.73-inch curved display with a peak refresh rate of 120Hz. The flagship smartphones from Xiaomi also have a 2K AMOLED display that produces stunning colors and features the under-display optical fingerprint scanner.

The only main difference between the two smartphones' displays is the support of peak brightness on the 13 Ultra. With up to 2600nits peak brightness support, the Ultra is super helpful in outdoor conditions.

Camera

If you prioritize mobile photography, you'll adore both devices. Both phones include a 1-inch primary sensor, which can produce excellent images even in dim lighting. Additionally, the big sensor provides stunning natural bokeh and superb detail.

The 13 Ultra raises the bar, as it adds a 50MP camera with an extra 120mm telephoto lens with an f/3.0 aperture and OIS. With up to 5X optical zoom, you can achieve a 10X digital zoom, but it's not better than the S23 Ultra's zooming capabilities.

Both phones also include a 32MP punch-hole camera for selfies. Although it is a fantastic camera, it can only shoot at Full HD 60 frames per second, which is disappointing, given that many modern flagship models can have 4K 60FPs video recording.

Battery

The Xiaomi 13 Pro steps things up with its accompanying 120W HyperCharge adaptor when you need to charge it. You'll get from flat to full in just under 20 minutes with this. On the other hand, despite having a larger 5,000mAh battery and compatibility for 90W fast charging, the 13 Ultra takes longer than 30 minutes to juice up entirely. Both phones also support 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Verdict

In conclusion, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro are fantastic options if you're searching for a high-end flagship phone. However, the Ultra's variable aperture technology and enhanced zoom capabilities make it a formidable competitor, even if the Pro provides faster charging times.

Ultimately, if you value a periscope lens, the Ultra makes much more sense. Otherwise, for a shorter charging time and a lower price tag, the 13 Pro will satisfy most users.
