FIFA 18 ratings: Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney's card shows sharp decline after Everton move

Everton v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Rooney's rating has taken a big hit in FIFA 18

What's the story?

For the first time since FIFA 2004, Wayne Rooney has not been listed as a Manchester United player. After spending more than a decade with the Red Devils, he has reunited with boyhood club Everton for the 2017-18 season.

So how does this move affect his FIFA 18 rating? In FIFA 17, the Englishman had a rating of 84 after dropping two points from FIFA 16

His FIFA 18 rating is a sad image at 81, with his pace reduced to 68 and his passing and shooting stats also taking a hit, coming down to 80 and 81 respectively. He has been given a 76 dribbling rating, 52 defending and 81 physicality.

In case you didn't know

Back in FIFA 12, the 31-year old enjoyed a highest ever rating of 90 and was even featured on the front cover. He was even considered one of the best players in the game.

Rooney had even recently announced his retirement from international football in August.

The heart of the matter

However, Rooney's rating has dropped even further to 81 in FIFA 18 and his stats are not what they used to be. His stats have dramatically dropped in the span of one year. However, even though his speed had taken a hit, his shooting, passing and physicality were fairly decent in FIFA 17.

But FIFA 18 tells a different story, His speed has reduced slightly but the major difference is in the attributes, which have all been reduced from the last game.

What's next?

These kind of stats are definitely not the kind of statistics that a Manchester United fan wishes to see. They would most likely be glad that the Everton midfielder is where he is, even though he is the highest-ever goal scorer for United.

Sportskeeda's take

Although there is no denying that Rooney was one of United's most successful players, the facts speak for themselves. Another thing to take into consideration is that time is not on Rooney's side and it is definitely slowing him down.

EA Sports would have taken this into consideration while developing FIFA 18 to come up with such dismal stats for Rooney.
