What’s the story?

The eight-year Ultimate team mode continues to celebrate thousands of players around the world through the FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) cards. What is FIFA without the Ultimate team, after all?

The Futhead archives have revealed the greatest FUT card of all time. Needless to say, it comes down to a battle between football favourites, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Going back to the start, we look at FIFA 10 and FIFA 11.

With a 95 rating, Messi was the highest rated player in FIFA 10, with a 97 pace, 93 shooting and 99 dribbling. FIFA 11 saw him climbing 3 points for shooting and 11 for passing with his overall score being a decent 96.

We move on to the next years and look at FIFA 12 and FIFA 13.

FIFA 12 saw Messi in his best form, easily emerging as the most acclaimed Argentine in the series. His score was 99 in every attacking feature – from shooting to dribbling.

In the upcoming FIFA 13, his numbers came down most likely owing to his unbelievable performances previously, with Ronaldo coming to the limelight.

The heart of the matter

In FIFA 14 and FIFA 15, Messi’s remarkable 97 rating for pace, 96 shooting, 92 passing and 99 dribbling was a shadow of his FIFA 12 card.

Ronaldo, still some way from getting to where Messi stood, managed to enter the scene with a 99 rating.

FIFA 16 and FIFA 17 continued to see Ronaldo in the lead with another 99-rated card, which beats Messi’s FIFA 12 card.

Taking an average of all the six attributes, Ronaldo’s FIFA 16 card scored 88 beating Messi’s FIFA 16 card, which scores an 86.

And that leads us to the greatest FUT card of all times.

Having an average score of 88.5, Ronaldo has taken the lead with an incredible combination of strength, skill and implausible finishing.

This year, Cristiano Ronaldo is No.1 with Lionel Messi makes it to the top 5.

What’s next?

The FIFA Ultimate Team is known to release new features every year. There is no denying that FUT 17 has some great new aspects, but there is always room for improvement. The accomplishments, for instance, have always been the same and some variation in the rewards would be good.

Playing with just the selected player makes the team useless. People have been demanding EA to bring back the player/manager joint career mode, which was a favourite of many FIFA fans. The current highest is 99 and that can get better with better cards and better crowds.

Author’s Take

It comes as no surprise that these two football greats make it all the way to the end. Beating Messi by just one point this year, Ronaldo has improved his skill and other attributes over the years.

FIFA 17’s Ronaldo is officially the greatest FUT card in history and gamers look forward to even better features in the next mode of the FIFA Ultimate Team.
