The medals continued to pour in for India, who have been thoroughly dominant at the 12th South Asian Games in Guwahati and Shillong.
Archery
After already having done exceedingly well at the archery over the past few days, today Indian archers pulled off a clean sweep, winning gold at the men’s and women’s team recurve events, as well as the mixed event, with Tarundeep Rai and Deepika Kumari starring in India’s medal wins.
Earlier in the day, the women’s recurve team of Bombayla Devi, Deepika Kumari and Laxmirai Majhi took top honours, outperforming their competitors for India’s first archery gold of the day.
Following this, the men’s squad also won gold at the recurve team event.
Indian archers Tarundeep Rai and Deepika Kumari together won gold at the Mixed Recurve team event, capping off a faultless day for India in archery.
Swimming
Indian swimmers also had a field day today, with the women winning top prize at both team and individual events, and the men coming away with individual awards.
The swimming day began with Saurabh Sangvekar winning gold at the men’s 400m freestyle, with compatriot Sajan Prakash coming away with the silver medal. The women performed similarly well, with an all-India lockout of V Malvika and Shivani Kataria taking gold and silver at the women’s 400m freestyle.
Prakash also won gold at the butterfly.
Following those five medals, Manna Patel won silver at the women’s backstroke.
India won 6 individual medals at swimming today, with 7 gold and 4 silver, to round off a sensational day in the pool.
Athletics
India’s performance at the athletics was just as good, with more front-row lockouts across track and field. Mayooka Jhony won gold for India at the women’s long jump and Shradha Bask taking silver.
Runners also doing exceptionally. India's L Surya won gold at the women’s 5000m, with compatriot Swaty Gadhave the silver medallist.
Maan Singh followed up, taking gold for India at the men’s 5000m event.
Neeraj Kumar won gold at the men’s hammer throw final, but shot putter Inderjeet Singh withdrew from the Games at the last minute, with no reason forthcoming as to his sudden withdrawal.
Weightlifting
With the culmination of all weightlifting at the South Asian Games, India concluded their run at the sport with a staggering twelve golds, with India's Sushila Panwar taking top prize in the +75kg weightlifting category.
Among the men, Gurdeep Singh took silver in the +105kg category, with Pakistan’s weightlifter winning the gold at that event.
Other sports
Indian women performed well at the table tennis, with Manika Batra and Pooja Sahasrabuddhe beating their Sri Lankan rivals 3-0 to progress to the finals of the women’s doubles event. Batra also participated in the mixed doubles finals.
It was delight for the hosts in the Men’s category as they won the Gold while the Women had to settle for the silver.
India’s eves took another gold in the volleyball finals, beating Sri Lanka to take the top prize.
