AEW Dynamite is a wrestling television program which is produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW). AEW Dynamite is also known as Wednesday Night Dynamite or simply Dynamite. AEW Dynamite is broadcast on TNT in the United States. AEW Dynamite was created by Tony Khan and was presented by Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, and Excalibur. The show has a running time of 120 minutes.

FTW Championship Match: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Minoru Suzuki

In an intense match, Suzuki and Jericho exchanged various chops, with Jericho's chest bleeding vigorously. The action went on as Suzuki applied a triangle choke and later attempted to injure Jericho's hand with a chair. Back in the ring, Jericho got away from a Fujiwara armbar and hit a Code Breaker, yet Suzuki kicked out at one. Suzuki locked in a rear naked choke, however, Jericho countered with a Walls of Jericho before delivering a low blow and wrapping up with a Judas Effect for the win.

Singles Match: Hikaru Shida vs. Dr. Britt Baker

In an action-packed match, Shida at first dominated, delivering mounted punches and a running knee to Baker. After a brief exchange, Baker attempted her Lockjaw submission, yet Shida countered with a German suplex and guillotine choke. The two exchanged a few near falls, with Baker applying a Fujiwara armbar and Shida escaping to the ropes. Eventually, the Baker got Shida in the Lockjaw after countering the Kitana, forcing Shida to tap out for the triumph.

Singles Match: Mariah May vs. Kayla Alexis

May ruled the match with a series of powerful moves, including a running shotgun dropkick, big elbows in the corner, and another shotgun dropkick off the top rope. After hitting a Mayday, May pulled her rival into the corner for a running hip attack. She finished the match with a Storm Zero, getting the triumph.

Blood & Guts Match: The Elite vs. Team AEW

In an intense and chaotic match, The Elite at first acquired the advantage with Jack Perry going after Darby Allin before the match officially began. Perry and Darby fought through the crowd before getting back to the ring, where Perry used a camera cable to choke Darby and afterward hammered him into a steel garbage bin. The match saw the entry of a few vital participants, including Nick and Matthew Jackson, Mark Briscoe, and Anthony Bowens, who brought weapons like chairs and suitcases into the fight. Kazuchika Okada and Swerve Strickland later joined, with Swerve using a staple gun to brutalize rivals. The climax included a dramatic series of moves, including Darby Allin threatening to set Jack Perry on fire with gasoline. In a desperate bid to protect Perry, Matthew Jackson intervened, eventually quitting to prevent further harm, giving Team AEW the victory.

Wednesday Night Wars against WWE NXT

AEW Dynamite went head-to-head on Wednesday Nights with WWE NXT from 2019 to 2021. This was popularly known as The Wednesday Night Wars. This was the first competition between huge wrestling promotions after 2010 when TNA Impact and WWE RAW both aired on Monday Night Nights. Also, this might be the first time since Monday Night Wars that WWE has been on the losing end. The war lasted from October 2, 2019, the first episode of AEW Dynamite, to April 7, 2021, the last episode before NXT moved to Tuesday Nights.

Following a tight beginning against NXT in the early days, it was Dynamite that won the ratings war. Since the end of the ratings war, both shows have been able to draw huge numbers without direct competition. Since that night, the two shows have rarely collided. Most recently, AEW Dynamite took place on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, bringing it right in front of WWE NXT. This night marked the AEW debut of former WWE Superstar Edge and thus the promotion was expected to do better than WWE here. However, WWE brought names like Paul Heyman, Cody Rhodes, John Cena, and surprisingly The Undertaker to NXT. NXT drew 921,000 viewers for the show in comparison to AEW's 609,000 fans.

History

After the launch of AEW in 2019 and the inaugural Double or Nothing PPV on May 25, 2019, AEW started its weekly programming on October 2nd. The all-new wrestling programming was named Dynamite and is known as the flagship programming for All Elite Wrestling. It debuted on WarnerMedia's TNT, marking the first time in almost two decades that a wrestling show was being broadcast on the channel. The last time such a show aired on TNT was before WCW went into closure. Airing on Wednesdays, Dynamite went head-to-head with WWE's third programming NXT.

After a tough fight with NXT during the initial days, Dynamite would soon go on to beat the show in ratings regularly due to a more extensive roster and major impact on storylines. After the introduction of AEW Rampage, Dynamite shifted to TNT's sister channel TBS in early 2022. In May 2023, AEW introduced another weekly program called AEW Collision, which was AEW's second show with a 120-minute slot. While Dynamite and Collision take place on two different nights and are shot separately, the two shows do not have a dedicated roster like RAW and SmackDown. This means AEW has not yet enacted some sort of brand extension or draft in their programming.
