Australian Grand Prix History
While the Australian Grand Prix was a name that had been used since 1927, the first official Formula 1 event in Australia was held in 1985. The 1985 Australian GP was held at the Adelaide Street Circuit in Adelaide.
Incidentally, it was the 50th rendition of the Australian GP event which was prevalent in Australia. The first Formula 1 race in Australia was marked by the incredible duel between Ayrton Senna and Keke Rosberg. It was also the last race of three-time world champion Niki Lauda.
Australian Grand Prix 2024 Schedule
The Australian Grand Prix will mark Formula 1’s return to its normal weekend schedule. In a strange move, the first two races of the 2024 season were scheduled on Saturday. The Australian Grand Prix will be held on Sunday, March 24th at 3:00 PM track time. There will be two Practice Sessions on Friday, March 22nd from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM respectively. Saturday, March 23rd will feature Final Practice from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM and Qualifying Session from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Australian Grand Prix 2024 Venue
Australian Grand Prix 2024 will be held at its original venue in Albert Park Street Track, Melbourne. The track is situated around the Albert Park Lake and has an FIA Grade 1 license. It is a 5.278 km long track with 14 turns. The track surface was resurfaced in 2022 to help the newer Formula 1 cars driver better.
In 2020, the Albert Park Street Circuit was shortened to make the track faster and have better racing overall. Melbourne is one of the faster tracks on the current Formula 1 calendar. The lap record of the circuit is held by Sergio Perez. He broke the previous record while setting the fastest lap in the 2023 Australian Grand Prix.

Michael Schumacher has the most wins in the Australian Grand Prix with four victories in 2000,2001,2002 and 2004 seasons. He is closely followed by Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel at three wins each.
McLaren have the most victories in the Australian GP with 11 victories. Ferrari lost out to McLaren with only one win at 10 victories. Lewis Hamilton is the only active driver on the current Formula 1 grid to have won the Grand Prix twice.
