Durand Cup - Event Details

Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in Asia, it was founded in 1888 and named after its founder, Sir Mortimer Durand who was Foreign Secretary in charge of India from 1884 to 1894. There are 20 teams involved in Durand Cup 2022, 11 teams from ISL, 5 from I-League, and 4 teams from the armed forces. The matches will be played in West Bengal, Assam and Manipur, i.e in Kolkata, Guwahati and Imphal, with games being played in 4 different stadiums in these cities.

All eleven ISL teams are taking part in Durand Cup 2022, the first time the tournament sees a full house from the ISL. The Indian Super League has been growing as a global event since its inauguration in 2013 and their continued participation in the revamped Durand Cup bodes well for the future of Indian football.

5 I-League teams from across the country will participate in the Durand Cup 2022 - Mohammedan Sporting, NEROCA, Rajasthan United, Sudeva Delhi and TRAU. The tournament could prove to be an opportunity for these clubs to show the rest of the country and their ISL counterparts what they're made of.

Armed Force Teams

Armed Force teams Indian Air Force, Army Green, Army Red, Indian Navy will be participating in this edition of the Durand Cup. The armed forces are never too far behind the country's professional clubs. Army Green, in fact, won the cup in 2016 and will be hoping to repeat the feat.
