The 39th edition of the Miami Open will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami Gardens, Florida from March 17 to 31.

The Miami Open, also known as the Miami Masters is part of the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments on the ATP Tour. Following the Indian Wells Open, it is the second tournament of the "Sunshine Double". This tournament was named the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year from 2002-06 and again in 2008.

The Miami Open was held at the Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, Florida from 1987 to 2018. In 2019, the venue for the tournament was changed, and now it is played at the Hard Rock Stadium. In 2019, Roger Federer became the first champion at the new venue.

In 2022, Carlos Alcaraz won his first Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open, at the age of 18, becoming the youngest winner in the tournament history.

Miami Open History

In the 1960s, many famous tennis players such as Pancho Gonzalez, Pancho Segura, Frank Sedgman, Jack Kramer, and Butch Buchholz came up with an idea to organize an international tennis tournament in Miami.

The Miami Open tennis tournament was founded by former player Butch Buchholz in 1985. Initially, the main aim was to make the event the first major tournament of the year, because at that time the Australian Open was held in December.

Tournament founder Buchholz wanted all top players to play in the Miami Open tennis tournament. He approached the ATP and WTA with the same idea, and both organizations agreed, since then many top players began playing in the event.

In 1985, the Miami Open was held at Laver’s International Tennis Resort in Delray Beach, it moved to Boca Raton in 1986. From 1987 to 2018, the tournament was held in Key Biscayne. In 2019, the tournament was moved to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

Tim Mayotte is the first champion in tournament history. Novak Djokovic and Andre Agassi are the most successful male players in tournament history, they both won the event six times.
