The Detroit Golf Club, sometimes known as DGC, is a private golf club in the heart of a north-side neighbourhood close to Palmer Woods Historic District and the University of Detroit Mercy in Wayne County, Michigan. Bert Way built the original 6-hole course. After it was enlarged to nine holes, Donald Ross constructed the current 36-hole course. The North and South Courses are both maintained by the club grounds crew. Josh Upson is the head pro. 2019 saw the launch of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, a new yearly PGA Tour event held at Detroit Golf Club.
Designed by Albert Kahn in 1916, the Clubhouse continues to attract a diverse range of people, including business executives, families, and individuals. Enjoy a stunning environment and a wide variety of activities for all ages as soon as members arrive at this hidden gem.
The Detroit Golf Course Holes
Bert Way developed the initial 6-hole course at the Detroit Golf Club, which Donald Ross later enlarged to 9 holes. Ultimately, the current 36-hole course was constructed. The club grounds crew maintains the North and South Courses.
Basic Information about the course:
It was built in 1899
Two 18-hole golf courses
219 acres
North Course
There are 870 yards more on the North Course than the South. The original Donald Ross design called for the eighth tee to be the first and the seventh to be the ninth. One of the standout elements is the twisted tree that sits between holes seven and eight. When the tree was still sapling, the Native Americans bent it to mark the beginning of the Indian Trail that connected Detroit and Pontiac. The location of the original Clubhouse is now the site of the 12th hole; pipes are still visible behind the green.
South Course
The South Course has two combined tees: third and Ninth, and Fifth and Eighth. At the DGC, the tenth tee is the highest—the 13th and 14th tees on the North before the hut were merged in the early 1980s.
