East Lake Golf Club Hole-by-Hole
The hole-by-hole information for the East Lake Golf Club is as follows:
Hole #1
This hole, a par-5 that was shortened to play as a par-4 for the Tour Championship, calls for a long tee shot that is to the left of the fairway to provide players with a view of the putting surface. The second shot will be an iron that is mid-to-long into a sizable green. Lag putting from the rear is a big effort because of the green's considerable slope from back right to front left.
Hole #2
For most golfers, the tee shot to the elevated green is between a 4 and a 6-iron, depending on the wind. Players teeing off cannot see the back section of the 38-yard-deep green. The right side of the green is shielded by a massive oak tree, while two deep greenside bunkers squeeze the front part of the green. Putts from above the hole are unexpectedly fast, and sidehill putts frequently have a 4 or 5-foot break.
Hole #3
On this downhill par 4, the majority of players will tee off with long irons or fairway woods. This hole is extremely difficult to play from the left side due to an overhanging tree and deep roughness on the left side of the fairway. The best place to hit is in the right center of the fairway, which leaves a short iron to the green.
Hole #4
Players should aim to the right of the fairway bunkers while teeing off from the championship tee box. The best fairway position is left center. Although it requires navigating the right greenside bunker on the approach, the right center is a feasible option. The green at East Lake, like many others, slopes from back to front, so placement of the ball is crucial.
Hole #5
This straight-away par 4 is an extremely challenging driving hole because of the thick pines and old oaks surrounding it. Longer tee shots may leave the right side of the fairway in a challenging sidehill stance. The two-tiered green slopes from back to front and is bunkered on both sides. Birdie opportunities will be available to players who place their ball below the hole.
Hole #6
To get to the finest spot on the fairway, players must fade past three towering pines on the right side of the course. Players can reach this short par-5 in two strokes with a solid drive. This is one of East Lake's easier holes.
Hole #7
At 278 yards from the tee, the fairway narrows to 25 yards in width, so precision while driving is crucial on this lengthy par 4. To get to the green from here, a mid-to-long iron is required. A broad, receptive green that slopes from back to front is lined with two sizable bunkers, ready to receive errant approaches.
Hole #8
On this par-4 at East Lake, there are two bunkers to the right of the fairway landing area. The undulating green where the approach is played is surrounded by two bunkers: one short to the left and one enormous to the right.
Hole #9
On this challenging par 3, players can try anything from a fairway wood to a long iron, depending on the wind. There's not much room for error with deep bunkers to the left and right of the two-tiered green. This is one of the hardest putts in East Lake, so any golfer who leaves the ball above the pin needs to be extremely cautious.
Hole #10
For the best shot at the green on the opening hole of the back nine, the golfer must be on the left side of the fairway during the drive. The hardest hole position is on the back right because of the deep bunker on the right.
Hole #11
Golfers at East Lake cannot afford to miss greens on the short side of the flagstick if they hope to score well. It plays a little shorter than the yardage on this par 3, but getting the ball on the green is crucial. The green is surrounded by bunkers on both sides and slopes sharply from left to right and from back to front.
Hole #12
Two sizable bunkers guard the front of the green; these can be particularly tricky if the hole is cut on the incorrect side of the green. It has very prominent ridges that make it exceedingly challenging to read as it slopes from back to front.
Hole #13
Golfers looking to set up a mid-iron approach to this green on this long, straight par 4 should stay clear of the two fairway bunkers on the right. The left hole is the hardest to locate since the green slopes from left to right.
Hole #14
This 520-yard hole will play significantly shorter than the yardage since the drive will pitch forward on the fairway's downslope. It is the second of two par-5s that have been altered to play as par-4s for the Tour Championship.
Hole #15
Given that the wind is driving the ball toward the lake to the right of the green on this 209-yard par-3, it is a frightening hole. Another shot from the bunker on the left, which is the only way out. Front right is the most difficult hole position, while rear left, behind the bunker, is equally challenging.
Hole #16
The 16th hole requires accuracy off the tee because of a small dogleg left. An approach shot will be challenging due to the fairway bunker situated on the right side of the course. The second shot is blind to players from the fairway and must find its way through three deep greenside bunkers to reach the two-tiered green.
Hole #17
Players should be discouraged from cutting the corner on this dogleg left par-4 since there are bunkers and trees on the left side of the fairway. This hole, which is frequently considered a birdie hole, has a relatively small, firm green.
Hole #18
It's possible to reach this green in two with a long drive, particularly if the hole plays downwind. The second shot will be a fairway wood try for the green in two or a mid-to-long iron layup short of a fairway bunker on the left.
