Considered one of the greatest events on the European Tour, the Genesis Scottish Open is one of the five professional golf tournaments in Scotland that are part of the Rolex Series; it originally began in 1972 as the Sunbeam Electric Scottish Open.
The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, in the United Kingdom, will host the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open from July 10 to July 14. It has been played on a number of courses, but since 2019, the event has been played at the Renaissance Club's Links course.
The events of 1972 and 1973 were aired by ITV, however, because of a lack of television coverage, the event scheduled for the following season was canceled. The Scottish Open was rebranded and introduced to the European Tour calendar in 1986, replacing the Glasgow Open, which had been held at Haggs Castle Golf Club from 1983 to 1985.
The prize money was increased by $7 million when the Scottish Open was introduced to the Rolex Series in 2017, the year the series began. The PGA Tour co-sanctioned the event beginning in 2022, with Genesis serving as the headline sponsor.

Genesis Scottish Open 2024 Course details
The Renaissance Club is home to the Genesis Scottish Open, which debuted there in 2019 and will run through 2026. North Berwick, Scotland's Club, is located roughly 20 miles east of Edinburgh. It hosted the Scottish Senior Open in 2017 and the Ladies Scottish Open in 2019 and 2020.
Having its origins in Scotland, this golf course is a Links design, which is the most traditional kind. Links courses are usually built on sandy coastland, which offers a better playing surface than parkland and heathland courses.

Genesis Scottish Open Tournament Purse History
When the tournament first began in 1972, the payout was $10,000 with a $2,000 winner's share, and the next season's purse was $15,000 with a $2,500 winner's share, after which the event was discontinued due to a lack of a television sponsor.
The Scottish Open returned in 1986, with Bell as the sponsor, a purse of $130,000, and a winner's share of $21,660. Over the next 30 years, a few sponsors changed, and the purse increased steadily but not significantly.
However, in 2017, the Scottish Open joined the Rolex Series, a group of marquee events on the European Tour with larger purses. As a result, the purse for the Scottish Open jumped from $3.2 million in 2016 to $7 million in 2017, including a $1.16 million winner's share.
The purse remained stable for the next three years before increasing by $1 million in 2021 to $8 million, and $9 million in 2023, with the winner's share of $1.57 million, the event's greatest purse.
