Originally, the sport of golf had roots in the Netherlands and Scotland, with a version of modern golf dating back to the 16th century. The modern iteration of the Olympics began in 1896, which was held in Athens, Greece, with a few of the then-major sports. Its second and third iterations included golf, held in 1900, followed by 1904.
Regardless, golf was removed from the Olympic programs after 1904, with a few unsuccessful attempts to reinstate it in 1908 and 1920. As the sport gained popularity over time, attempts to reinstate it were made once more in 2001; however, approval for its return came about in 2009, for the 2016 Summer Olympics, after 112 years. The International Golf Federation (IGF), a governing body recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was established in the late 1950s. It was led by the USGA (America) and the R&A (Scotland).

Year | Event | Player | Medal |
2020 | Individual, Men’s | C.T. Pan | Bronze |
Pan Cheng-tsung, aka C.T. Pan, is a Taiwanese golfer who also participated in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics but finished tied for 30th place with David Hearn, Wu Ashun, Nino Bertasio, Thorbjorn Olesen, Nicolas Colsaerts, and Rodolfo Cazaubon. However, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Pan became the first ever Taiwanese golfer to earn a medal in golf; he won bronze.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics ended in dramatic fashion since there was a seven-way-playoff for bronze among Hideki Matsuyama (Japan), Collin Morikawa (USA), Rory McIlroy (Ireland), Mito Pereira (Chile), Sebastian Munoz (Colombia) and Paul Casey (Great Britain).
Eventually, with Pan on the left and Morikiawa on the right, both had tee shots that ended up in the rough. Pan missed the green in his approach, but he landed long and on the safe side. Morikawa, on the right of the green, cleared the water.
However, his ball lodged in a greenside bunker's upside lip, presenting him with an almost unfeasible up-and-down. He still managed to reach the green but stopped just short of the hole. After chipping on, he dragged his par putt long, giving Pan a chance to go for bronze, and with a flawless putt, which he achieved.
