Big Ten Conference Championship Game
(8) Ohio State Buckeyes 27, (4) Wisconsin Badgers 21
Indianapolis, INDIANA-- Despite 3 turnovers, Ohio State defeated Wisconsin 27-21. Not only did they destroy the Badgers' chance for a perfect season, they may have cost Wisconsin a spot in the College Football Playoff.
JT Barrett threw for 211 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in the win. JK Dobbins rushed for 174 yards. Terry McLaurin caught 2 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown in the win. The Buckeyes won their first Big Ten title since 2014.
For Wisconsin, Alex Hornibrook threw for 229 yards and 2 interceptions. Johnathan Taylor rushed for 41 yards. Danny Davis III caught 3 passes for 50 yards. The Badgers haven't won the Big Ten Championship since winning back to back championships in 2011, the first Big Ten Championship game, and 2012, when they were awarded the spot in the game after first-place Ohio State and second place Penn State were banned from postseason play.
An interception by Ohio State's Damon Webb ended the game for the Buckeyes.
Traditionally, the Big Ten Champion, Ohio State, would face the Pac-12 Champion, USC, in the Rose Bowl. Since the Rose Bowl is part of the College Football Playoff this season, the conference championship will be placed in a different New Year's Six Bowl Game, aside from the Rose and Sugar Bowls.
The conference championship game results will have an impact on the College Football Playoff selection and pairings, which would be announced Sunday. The two semifinals will be played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana, both on January 1st. The National Championship game will be played in Atlanta, Georgia.
