Jade Carey Coach

Jade Carey is a professional American artistic gymnast. Her full name is Jade Ashtyn Carey, and she was born on May 27, 2000, in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. She began her professional career with a breathtaking performance in the 2016 Junior Olympic Nationals where she performed a tucked Kasamatsu, a move which is now named The Carey after her. Soon, she qualified for the World Gymnastics Championships, where she won two silver medals at the 2017 edition.

Overall, Carey has won seven medals at the World Gymnastics Championships including three gold, and has won five medals at the NCAA Championships performing for the Oregon State Beavers of the Oregon State University. Carey also represented the USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she won a gold medal in the Floor Exercise category. Carey is also qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Team Category alongside Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, and Hezly Rivera.

Jade Carey Coach

Jade Carey’s father, Brian Carey, is also her coach. She has been trained and mentored by her father for a long time. Not only her father is very supportive of her daughter but is also among the ones who have shaped Carey’s gymnastics prowess. He is a former gymnast himself and owns a gymnast training facility called 'Carey on Gymnastics.' He works directly with gyms and helps them balance the physical, mental, and emotional status of the athletes, which helps them bring out their best game.

Besides that, he is also an Assistant Coach at Oregon State University, the college where Jade Carey completed her graduation. Her father is not Jade Carey’s only coach. She has been trained and mentored by a few other notable coaches including Tanya Chaplin, who is head coach of the gymnasts at the Oregon State Beavers. Chaplin has been serving as the Head Coach for the Women’s Gymnast team since 1997, three years before Carey was born.

Pam Evans is the Assistant Coach of Jade Carey and is the owner of Gold Star Gymnastics. Betty Okino is the choreographer of Carey and a retired gymnast. A few skills in Balance Beams and Uneven Bars are named Okino, after Betty Okino. Okino is the first-ever Black Woman to win multiple medals in the World Championship individual category in gymnastics.

Brian Carey was previously married to Danielle Mitchell-Greenberg. She is a former gymnast herself and a huge supporter of her daughter. While Danielle and Brian are divorced, the two do not miss a chance to support Jade Carey in her gymnastic career in any way. A graduate of Longmont High School, she is currently a team coach at Gold Medal Gymnastics.

Brian Carey Coaching Career

Brian Carey started gymnastics during high school and even began a bit of coaching at that time. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps and became a head coach at a Men’s Club upon returning from service. He owned a gym before Jade Carey had started gymnastics and it was there Carey grew interested in gymnastics jumping over the trampolines arranged by her father and other coaches. Carey’s head coach Tanya Chaplin attended the University of California and has been serving as head coach of the Oregon State Beavers women's gymnastics team since 1997.
