India, as its well known to public across the globe, is crazy about cricket. The fan following for the game is such that it leaves several other sportspersons in an absolute minority. One such sport that suffers from a severe lack of popularity is gymnastics.
However, for some time now, the country has been gaining laurels in the sport, courtesy 22-year-old Dipa Karmakar, who has achieved quite a few remarkable feats, that includes being only one out of the five women to have successfully completed the Pradunova vault and holds the highest score amongst all in her attempt(15.100).
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, here’s a video of Karmakar speaking about the struggles she faced coming from a small state like Tripura, how she trained with very basic facilities and how, after the Commonwealth Games bronze medal victory in Glasgow in 2014, she became a celebrity among the public in her state.
Karmakar also reveals about how her parents were always supportive towards her and concludes by saying that she wants to give a lot more back to those who have showered so much love on her.
