Handball made its way into the Asian Games in the year 1982, held in the city of Delhi, India.
The sport is played for both men and female athletes and covers a handful of nations of Asia.
South Korea has been a superpower in the handball event. They lead the medals table with a total of 15 medals, 12 of which are gold. Though Japan have a total of 11 medals, which is four more medals than China, they have never been able to achieve gold. However, China have earned a total of two gold out their seven. Kuwait and Qatar are on third and fourth with a total of three medals and one gold each.
Asian Games 2018 Handball
The 2018 Asian Games Handball will be held at the POPKI Sport Hall in Jakarta, Indonesia from 13 to 31 August 2018. In men’s handball there will be a total of 13 teams participating. On the other hand, women’s handball will involve a total of 10 teams.
The men’s handball teams have been divided into four groups respectively. Qatar, Iran and Malaysia are in group A followed by South Korea, Japan and Pakistan in group B. Home team Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong are in group C followed by Chinese Taipei, Bahrain, Iraq and India in group D.
The women’s handball team have been divided into two groups respectively. South Korea, Kazakhstan, China, North Korea and India are in group A. Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand are in group B.
India has never been a stronger contender in handball. The country has failed to earn any medals in the past.
2014 Asian Games Handball Results
Handball at the 2014 Asian Games was held in Incheon, South korea. A total of 14 teams participated in the men’s competition and 11 teams were involved in the women’s competition.
The men’s event was won by Qatar, who earned the gold medal by defeating runners-up South Korea. Bahrain earned the bronze medal.
The women’s event was won by South Korea, who earned the gold medal by defeating Japan in the finals. Kazakhstan booked its third spot and earned the bronze medal.
