The 20th edition of the Asian Women’s Handball Championship is all set to take place from Tuesday, December 3, to Tuesday, December 10. The Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi will host the one-week tournament. Almaty in Kazakhstan was earlier scheduled to host the competition, but it was later shifted to New Delhi.
Republic of Korea, also the defending champion, is the most successful team in the history of the championship, having won 16 out of 19 times. They are placed in Group A along with China, Kazakhstan, and Singapore. India, Japan, Iran, and Hong Kong form the other group. Kazakhstan won in 2002 and 2010 while Japan came up trumps in 2004.
Australia and Uzbekistan were also a part of the competition, but they pulled out. The group matches will take place on December 3, 4 and 6, followed by the semi-final on December 8. The gold and bronze medal matches will be staged on December 10.
The top four teams in the Asian Women’s Handball Championship will also qualify for the 27th Women’s Handball World Championship, scheduled to be held in Germany from November 27 to December 14, 2025.
