India hung on to the ball far too long
One-touch hockey has been coach Sjoerd Marijne's mantra for a while now. The same, however, was not on display in India's first match against Pakistan.

Mandeep Singh made a solo run with SV Sunil advancing down the center, but instead of passing to Sunil who was in an excellent position to find the net, Mandeep decided to have a go himself with a wild swing which defied logic.
The above was not the only instance of not following the coach's methods. The biggest reason for India's attacks lacking punch in the second half was because the strikers hung on to the ball far too long attempting to play to the galleries with some great stick-work. The moves lacked cohesion, however, and India failed to get a single decent shot at goal in the second half.
India would do well to revert to the methods they so painstakingly practised in the preparatory camp, and implement them in the matches ahead to make up for a disappointing result today.
