Commonwealth Games 2014: India Vs Scotland preview

India should not drop their guard against Scotland

After beating Wales 3-1 in their opening game, India will now take on hosts Scotland. India will look to continue their winning run against their European opponents.

Sardar Singh led India had won their 2 warm-up matches before the games. Scotland are coming into this game after losing 0-2 against South Africa in their first match. Derek Forsyth's team went down to the African nation for the third time in six weeks after Andrew Cronje and Ignatuis Malgraff scored at the National Hockey Centre at Glasgow Green.

Ross Stott celebrated his 100th cap for the scots in match against South Africa, but the result did not go in his favor.

India top Pool A with 3 points and the hosts are last in the table. Defending champions Australia will start their campaign against Wales today.

India looked vulnerable against Wales during the first half after letting their opponents equalise 1-1. But, Terry Walsh coached side upped their ante in the second half as they won 3-1 in the end. Raghunath, Rupinder Pal Singh and Gurvinder Chandi scored for India. Sreejesh did an excellent job as he did not allow anything to pass him in the second half.

The Games will provide India a chance to make a point before their detractors, especially after their ninth-place finish at this year's World Cup at The Hague, Netherlands. India are bolstered by the arrival of Ramandeep Singh, Nikkin Thimmaiah and Gurvinder Chandi after the World Cup.

They should not be complacent against their 25th ranked opponents as a slip up would be costly at this stage of the tournament. India need to win against the hosts in order to carry their momentum against a well balanced Australian side, whom they face on the 29th.

India will probably stick to the same side tonight. The match starts at 8:30 pm IST.
