What's the story?
Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh has reportedly been cast in the lead role of a movie that is based on the life of former Indian Hockey star Sandeep Singh. The film is set to directed by Shaad Ali and also stars Taapsee Pannu, who shot to fame after her performance in the film Pink.
It was initially thought that the movie was going to be a biopic on former Hockey captain Sandeep Singh but according to a report by Hindustan Times it will be focused on Singh's love life rather than the rest of his life story and on-field pursuits.y
In case you didn't know...
Dosanjh made his Bollywood debut in 2016's Udta Punjab while Pannu made her debut in the same year with Pink. Both actors have received critical acclaim for both their respective roles.
As mentioned earlier, Singh's on field exploits won't be prominently featured but instead, the spotlight will be trained on his love life. The latest film under Dosanjh's belt is Phillauri while Pannu's latest film is Judwaa 2 which will be released later this year.
The heart of the matter
Although a number of details on the movie have been kept under wraps, it is understood that both Dosanjh and Pannu will undergo extensive training under the watchful eye of professionals in the field of hockey.
The shooting for the film is expected to get underway in Punjab in the month of October.
What's next?
Without a doubt, Diljit and Pannu are two extremely talented actors and will surely take this project in their stride. Pannu's latest film Judwaa 2 is slated to release on September 29th, while Dosanjh's latest film Kaneda is scheduled for a 2018 release.
Author's take
The yet-untitled hockey film is yet another movie in a long line of sports-based movies being made by Bollywood. The last Bollywood movie based on hockey was 2007's Chak De! India. We can be sure that this movie will be a huge success and do justice to the story of Sandeep Singh.
