MCC - Murugappa Hockey: Army XI draw with ONGC

Chennai, S Sep 10 - Holders Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) dropped precious points as they drew 1-1 with Army XI in a pool A match of the 87th MCC Murugappa Gold Cup hockey tournament here Monday.

Later, in a pool B game, Punjab National Bank also shared two goals with Indian Overseas Bank who thus picked up their first point in three outings.

The ONGC-Army match was interrupted by a heavy downpour. Army XI moved into the lead with a 17th minute penalty corner goal by Siraju A.P., but ONGC equalized in the 38th with a field goal by Gagandeep Singh.

Local league champions IOB surprised the more fancied PNB with a 43rd minute goal by Roopinder Pal Singh, but the visitors drew level four minutes later when Banmali Xess sounded the boards.
