New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in congratulating the Indian women's hockey team for winning the Asian Champions Trophy on Saturday.

India beat China 2-1 in the thrilling summit clash to lift the title in Singapore.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi also congratulated the team for clinching the trophy.

"This victory confirms India's supremacy in Hockey in Asia," she said.

Wishing great success to all players, Gandhi called this win "an unforgettable tribute to our national game."

India's earlier best finish in the Women's Asian Champions Trophy came in the last edition in 2013 when it finished runner-up to Japan.

Saturday's win by the eves comes a week after the men's team beat Pakistan to reclaim the Asian Champions Trophy in Kuantan, Malaysia.
