Sardar Singh set to lead India at the Hockey World League Finals

Sardara Singh will lead the men’s hockey team

On Wednesday, Hockey India named the men’s team that will participate in the Hockey World League Final scheduled to be held from January 1oth to 18th at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi.

Sardar Singh will captain the Indian side, while P. R. Sreejesh was named the vice-captain. Sardar Singh has an incredible 174 caps for the national team, while Sreejesh has 88.

Narinder Batra, the HI secretary general said: “It’s a great opportunity for every player to be playing this tournament. This will prove to be an ideal platform which is right before the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. Also this will be a big platform for young players in the team.”

The 18-player squad that has been named include:

  • Goalkeepers: P.R. Sreejesh, Harjot Singh
  • Defenders: Birendra Lakra, Rupinder Pal Singh, V.R. Raghunath, Kothajit Singh, Khadangbam, Amit Rohidas
  • Midfielders: Sardar Singh, S.K. Uthappa, Dharamvir Singh, Manpreet Singh, Chinglensana Singh Kangujam, M.B. Aiyappa
  • Forwards: Nikkin Thimmaiah, S.V. Sunil, Mandeep Singh, Affan Yousuf, Yuvraj Walmiki.
