The junior Indian women's team is all set to begin their campaign in the Three-Nations U-21 tournament which begins today in the Australian capital.
Under the tutelage of former India international, Baljit Singh Saini, the Indian girls will take on the juniors from Australia and New Zealand ahead of next year's Junior Asia Cup.
Captained by Suman Devi Thoudam, the team who took on Ireland and Belarus earlier this year will be up against two strong sides in Canberra - the girls will play two matches each against the U-21 teams of Australia and New Zealand.
The experience of Sharmila Devi who is now part of the senior women's team will come in handy for the Indians who will be looking to gain some much-needed confidence. The Indian team are preparing to book a place in the Junior World Cup via the Junior Asia Cup which is scheduled to be held in Japan in April 2020.
Goalkeeper Bichu Devi Kharibam who is celebrating her birthday today will guard the Indian citadel along with Rashanpreet Kaur.
The Indian girls will begin their campaign against New Zealand on December 4 before taking on Australia on Thursday.
Ishika Chaudhary, Chetna, and Reet who are part of the squad in Canberra were also proud members of the U-18 side that won the silver medal in the Youth Olympic Hockey 5's competition at Buenos Aires last year.
